Just an idea I had.

I was looking at archived news articles about video games and thought..hey why not post some.

Here's a neat one. It was taken from an article
By TOM REDBURN
Published: Friday, December 17, 1993

At a United States Senate subcommittee hearing on the issue last week representatives of Sega Enterprises and Nintendo of America, which dominate the $6 billion video game industry, and large retailers like Sears and Toys 'R' Us said they would work together to develop a voluntary labeling system aimed at advising parents about the depiction of violence and sex in video games. The ratings, which are likely to be modeled on a similar system followed by the movie industry, are also intended to ward off legislation that would establish more stringent controls.

The main focus of the story was how Toys R Us pulled Night Trap off it shelves.
They decided to leave Mortal Kombat up though. I'm sure they got a good profit off that one.

What really struck me was this was 15 years ago.

Shocked

I can clearly remember when they started talking about ESRB.

Wow.

If you want you can read the whole article Here

I just pulled this out of the basket. Now that we are a bit bigger in numbers i'd like to see if we can fill it up.

Anything. Old news, new news. What ever. The idea is just to build a video gamers time capsule so we cn look back in a year or so and see how the industry has treated us.

Yeah anything.

It all started once when I google searched News>VideoGames>Archived

I dont remember why I did. But all sorts of things came up.

Like this one I just found...

VIDEO GAME SPECIALISTS COME TO HARVARD TO PRAISE PAC-MAN, NOT TO BURY ; HIM

By FOX BUTTERFIELD, SPECIAL TO THE NEW YORK TIMES
Published: May 24, 1983

Pac-Man's beeping bite may be good, not bad, for children, a series of psychologists, teachers and computer designers said today at a conference on video games and learning at Harvard University.

At a three-day conference at Harvard's Graduate School of Education, the specialists extolled the educational benefits of playing the games.

Not only do video games improve hand-eye coordination as proponents of the electronic games have previously argued, but they also teach a range of other important intellectual skills, the speakers said.

These skills, they said, include developing inductive reasoning, or drawing generalizations from specific observations; improving one's spatial perceptions, and learning to handle multiple variables that interact simultaneously. William Lynch, a psychologist who works with adults with brain injuries in Palo Alto, Calif., said he had also found that video games could help such people achieve modest improvement in motivation and attention span.

Lots
more in the article. After the praise of video games, its of course balanced with the concerns about them too. Notice the date is 1983. I was 8 years old. Very Happy= :D

YaY... cheers That game owes me sooooooo much pocket money it's untrue. Sad

I remember there was another game out at about the same time that involved flying a ship through a canyon and it had realtime captured explosions if you hit the rocks. [/WASTEDYOUTHSPENTMAINLYINARCADES]
