Where's everyone ?, I know we are gamers here but olympics are only every 4 years !!!.

Anyway, been watching a heap of it, NZ doing great in the rowing as expected, one of our woman swimmers just made a final and another male swimmer of ours made the semis for his event !!! . Can't WAIT for the track and field stuff !! . Even gymnastics ain't a bad watch Wink .

I was watching the mens swimming, and there were two Aussie guys so I screamed at the tv "C'MON BROS!" and then they lost... missed out on the semi finals...

Pretty sure whenever I get enthusiastic about sports, the people I cheer on always lose or get seriously injured... I'm bad luck for the Aussies so I stopped watching Laughing

I've been watching a fair bit of the olympics, from cycling to gymnastics to boxing, hoping to see John Joe Nevin and Katie Taylor take gold in their respective boxing classes. Was fairly disappointed that Cavendish of Team GB finished 28th in the cycling. My sister's huge into the showjumping which is another event the Irish should do well in.

C'mon Ireland!!

I'm not sure how I felt about the opening ceremony, some of it was awesome and then some of it (I'm looking at you McCartney) just felt a little phoned in. That said it's the only one that held my attention all the way through so that must be a good sign.

Currently watching USA v France for basketball. France is putting up a valiant effort! Down by only 1 at the end of the first quarter. Id LOVE to see Team USA get upset today.

God the Irish commentary for the basketball sounds ridiculous, these country accents slobbering all over the place.

Irishman leading the kayaking slalom last I checked.

Not too bad at all.

USA crushed France in basketball. Bummer.

Oh well, Argentina is going to win it all anyways. Cool I cannot wait for their first game later today!

Watched all of the morning's swimming and saw Michael Phelps only come 3rd in his 200m butterfly heat and 5th fastest time overall. Maybe he's losing it ?

He's been known to have a bad work-ethic ever since his record-setting Beijing Olympics, on top of being very old for the sport. Lochte has come at the perfect moment, as he will be the face of US swimming for, at least, the next 2 Olympics.

On a separate note, I'm big on the "manly" sports, so to speak, but seeing these mens gymnasts has been quite shocking. These guys are probably stronger, and overall, mor eahletic than any basketball or soccer players playing for the US.

Is "LAME" the Japanese for "We couldn't' handle the dishonour of coming fourth and so either had to appeal or go outside and commit ritual suicide"?

Seriously? Wonder if you can do that on other sports, lets see how many decide to copy the appeal.

Not all the team GB athletes are English. Many will be Scottish, Welsh, (and Northern Irish too I think).

Huh, I thought each country within the commonwealth sends their own people to represent the individual county to most sporting events rather than as one, like in the World Cup.

I don't know why it is what it is, but in the olympics we compete as Great Britain not as the individual nations within the UK. That's what the footy team is GB not England and, hence, why Ryan Giggs is in the team.

Besides, England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland aren't members of the commonwealth: the UK is.

Huh, Learn something new everyday. Handy way to have it though. Sort of a Captain Planet Deal, "By your powers combined, I am Captin GB!"

Powers must be as follows;
"Imcomprhensible Accent 1" for Wales
"Imcomprhensible Accent 2" for Northern Ireland
"Poor Mans Ireland" for Scotland
"Hmmm Quite" for England

Also I get the whole Commonwealth/UK/Great Britain classifications thing mixed up
