Accident prone... I think that's Grace, the other day they were running around in the kitchen, and Grace ran flat out right in to the fridge. My reply - "BONK!" Although I was concerned, it was pretty funny. She shook it off and kept going.

I try my hardest when the fall, or anything, not to react. I find that 99% of the time, they only cry or react if my wife or I react. It's not easy, and I have to bite my tongue at times, but it seems to work.

I think a room/house/CITY made of Nerf would work best at keeping them safe - the logistics of which greatly intrigue me, hmmm...

Cel - Xylie is a cool name, and quite unique from my stand point. Where did you hear it, come up with it, find it, etc?

Awww! Poor Gracie-Lou. She sounds a lot like my Buggy! My hope is that they ALL grow out of this.

Xylie's name.. Oh yes! Well here's the story.

When I found out that my little baby was a girl, I went on a hunt. See.. I hate my name. Come on people. A Fawn is a freaking deer. HELLO!!! So I thought to myself, I'm going to give my sweetie pie a good unique yet beautiful name.
So.. I thought.. And thought.. And I guess I had a case of pregnancy brain because I couldn't think of anything suitable.
So.. I had my niece, Raeven, look girl names on the internet (didn't have it at the time) and she did just that. She had a list of names. One being " Xyris".
I personally loved it but Bug's "dad" ( And I use that word loosely) didn't like the Iris part but we thought Xy was awesome. So he came up with "Xylan". I didn't like it because it sounded a bit boyish to me.
Then he said "Xylie"? Excited
That was it!! For whatever reason I pictured my little girl with that name fitting her perfectly and hadn't even met her yet!!

MY BABY!!!! Very Happy= :D

I would gladly be named after a deer then what I am named after!

My name is Bradley (Brad). Its roots are Irish Gaelic O’Brolachán, meaning "descendant of the son of the chest." aka Breast, sigh. couple that with my last name which is Paletine German/Irish meaning whip (leaders of the village crack the whips), and you have Breast Whip... awesome!

I really like the name Xylie, you came up with a great name, and based on photos and stories, it is a perfect fit! Thanks for sharing the story.

It's amazing how some names just fit, Madelyn was going to be Amelia, but my sister was pregnant at the time, and said that was the name she has always loved and wanted to use it. Madelyn was a tie on our "names" list, so we decided to go with that, but when she was born there no doubt, she was a Madelyn, and nothing else.

Side note: speaking of pregnancy brain, my friends wife couldn't remember the word cup, when she was pregnant, every cup, class, mug, whatever, was called a bucket. A container for holding liquids lol.

Laughing
Breast Whip! You don't know how long I had to sit here long enough for the tears to stopped streaming down my face, before I could type. Not so much the name itself but the way you told the story!
Thank you for that!
Still.. It's a lot better then a baby deer. Laughing I mean.. If I was in fact a baby deer, then it wouldn't be so bad. Being that I'm human.. It sucks. Not very intimidating. Rolling Eyes

With the girls, do you have a nick name for them, RHYNOX?
Like Maddy? Gracie.. As I called her in the previous post?
I was calling Xylie- Xylie Bug while still in the hospital.

Today she has quite a few nick names.
Six started calling her Buggy Boo.. Which now his kids call her that.
I call her BABY!! Punky (Brewster), Buggy, Bugs, Hunny... Rarely do I call her Xylie but if you ask her who's ( and call each of those names, she smiles and points to herself)
She will play around and be silly with us though.
She'll say..
" I'm Meggie (Six's daughter)"
And we'll say "You are?"
And she'll say..
"No.. That's silly.." Laughing
So cute.. She'll go around with everyone's name.

I don't know, the last thing anyone would suspect is a baby deer punching them in the face. It gives you the element of surprise Smile

For my girls, a lot of the time I call them Monkey - "Ya Monkey", "Hey Monkey", "You little monkey"
They respond to "ya nut", to which they both reply with "NUT!"
As far as a nickname based on their names, Grace we just call Grace, but her Grandma calls her Gracie-lou for some unknown reason, and Madelyn calls her Gace. Madelyn we sometimes call Maddy, but mainly us Madelyn. Oddly enough, when they were in the hospital we always called her Maddy, when we got home (11 day later - they were 4 weeks early) we starting calling Madelyn. Madelyn also get "She puts the Mad in Madelyn" lol, and Grace calls her Madden.
For a long time, and still once in a while I call them my little beans - The first ultrasound showed these two little "lima beans" with a white dot that kept turning on and off. It was amazing! I teared up the first time I saw that, and still do when I think about it.

Punky Brewster is awesome, my sister and I used to watch that all the time when we were young. I like bug and it's itterations, very cute.

Shocked
Dude! Did you see what I called her 4 posts up? Is that freaky or what.

I love both their names. Very elegant. I have a little cousin name Madelyn.. We call her Maddy. Very Happy= :D

I use to LOVE Punky Brewster!! And I'm not sure what got it started but I call her that often.

The first time I seen Bug on the ultrasound.. She looked like a little turtle. Embarassed

I did see that, get out of my head! Bye

Thank you, that's what we were going for. A big fan of classic, elegant names, and now new ones too (Xylie). I really don't like fad names *disclaimer: this is all just MY OPINION* like states, countries, cities, numbers, fruit, whatever.

I know I did love watching punky brewster with my sis, but don't really remember the content of the episodes all that well. I do remember her, or her friend, getting trapped in an old refrigirator in the yard though... odd memory.

So amazing how they can turn from lima beans or turtles into this little person. I still think it is such a weird thought to think that "I made those/that", especially doing such a messy, nosiy, sometimes dirty act lol

Both of my kids are named from TV....sort of. My son is named after Vin Diesel's character in Fast and the Furious. We liked the nickname Dom, so we went with Dominic. His other name is Monkeypotamus. After many princess like names were suggested by my wife, Dom and I found a possibility. We were playing Lego Batman and there was a silly character jumping around. "Hey Babe, What about Harley?" We have called her Boo Boo Chicken for ever, so naturally I also call her Chickenpotamus. Dominic Aland and Harley Katherine- middle names are from grandparents. I love unique names that aren't just flat out weird (done for show).

Freaking LOVE the names Dom and Harley. Excited

Dom seems like a strong -large and in charge- type of name.. And Harley gives the impression of "HEY! Don't eff with me!"

So glad you guys came up with good strong unique names for that generation.
I think we did very well. Cool

RHY- I LOVED THAT EPISODE! Laughing And her friend's name was "Cheri Soda".. Now that's freaking unique.

My daughter's middle name is " Rayne". Still struggling to find a suitable name, and pissed that I didn't officially name Xylie.. (her donor and my niece did- I just okay-ed it) I thought YES!!!! I'll give her, her middle.
...
..
Couldn't think of one.
So one day, we were over at my sister's house. Rightful so, I gave her youngest her middle name so my sister said that if she came up with one, It would only be fair for her to come up with the middle name.
I agreed and she came up with Rayne.
Now.. Being that I didn't have much say in Bug's 1st or 2nd ...OR 3rd name for that matter, I thought it would only be right if I gave the spellings of the names.
So.. I spelled her name as such Xylie and my dad who is deceased (hate that word) his middle name was Ray so I spelled Rayne with the Ray in it. Very Happy= :D

I like the names Dom and Harley, in fact we named our Chocolate lab Harley (not a slight to you or your daughter, just an example of us liking that name).

Cel, I think it's awesome how you in corporated your dad's name in to Xy's middle name. I would love to do that, but David doesn't fit as well with a girls name. My dad's name was David, and my middle name is David; I would love to carry on the tradition, and honor my father. I'm just not a fan of Davida, heh.

My girls are Madelyn Maria, and Grace Caroline. Maria is my mother's name, and she did a great job raising my sister and I while my dad was sick and after his death. I also wanted to keep our Italian heritage going so, Maria was perfect to honor her and her sacrifices over the years, plust keep the roots.
Caroline was my wife's (Liz) grandmother's middle name, a great Aunt's name, and Liz's middle name, so to honor all those people, and the tradition, Grace got Caroline.

I love that the middle names have meaning behind them, and it's important to us.

Conor William O'Reilly.

Conor, cause it's Irish and I like it.
William for my Dad and me (My name is William in English)
O'Reilly cause it's my family's name. Lisa's choice. She didn't want Conor having her family's name.

I love Conor's name. Sounds.. like a future Doctor or Scientist's name. Very Happy= :D

Speaking of which..
In the last week, Bug has been, on occasion, calling me Fawn.
Probably because Six's kids call me that.. Six doesn't.

How would you guys handle that..?

I told her that's not what she calls me.. And I won't respond.. She laughs and calls me it anyway. Sad

Well sometimes my brothers and me call our parents by their given name. It wouldn't bother me to much.

It's a phase. She'll lose interest soon. Since we both use Babe, it took longer for our kids to learn our names. They got over using them rather quickly.
My students found out my first name and tried using it. That ended much quicker.

Yeah I had that happen too, kids just see what others call you and repeat it. My daughter called me Rick for a time when she was a toddler. It will pass after a while. My son is William Richard named after his Grandads and my daughter is Elizabeth Ann after my Grandma. Those names repeat themselves throughout our family history. I think it gives kids a sense of the heritage they have and it is a good way to honor family you love by naming your children after them

It is a phase, but an annoying one lol.

For us, titles are a sign of respect; respect and manners go hand in hand so, I don't stand for the first names only.

/rant on
There is a blantant disrepect and lack of manners in many people these days, and it drives me crazy. What ever happened to "excuse me", "please", "thank you", and "you're welcome"? Grrr, the you're welcome thing drives me nuts on it's own; I'm sick of people just saying no worries, no problem, etc. I didn't ask if you were worried, I said thank you. My girls do, and will continue to, respect others and use manners. I will not let them be like all the other self entitled, and down right rude people out there!

Man, I think I have been working in the service industry for WAY TOO LONG! (I run a slot floor in casino/raceway, people's entitlement delusions don't get any worse then when they are spending money, think they are owed, and are angry from losing - IT'S CALLED GAMBLING, NOT EARNING!!!)
/rant off

For us, and for Aunt's, Uncles, Grandparents, etc. for example, the names are Aunt , not just . My nephews try to call me Brad every once in a while, instead of Zio (Italian for Uncle). I just ignore them until they say Zio at which I address them as if it were the first time they tried to get my attention. It seems to work. My girls haven't tried that with us yet, but when they do, I will do the same thing.

Now, don't get me wrong, I understand that kids will say and do things that we can't control, or stop right away, and that they are testing/growing, but all be damned if I'm not going to try and nip it in the bud ASAP! lol

PS - *These are my opinions, and beliefs. There is nothing wrong with anyone elses opinions and beliefs, and I am not judging anyone else.

I totally agree RHYNOX! 100%!

And without trying to sound as if I have the perfect daughter, Xylie is VERY respectful. ALWAYS saying "please" and "thank you".. Even if it's just kissing (kinnis) her boo-boos she will always say "Thank you Mommy". She's a good girl.. No doubt.
And the "Fawn" reference has only happend a handful of times. I think she is starting to catch on!

What is so weird is, like you, Swift.. Me and Six never call each other by our given names.. Never. We call each other "Babe" so for the longest time, she called us both "Babe".
She is only two so she is still learning what everyone is called.. But she has to learn starting at some point. I am Mommy. Call me Mommy. Very Happy= :D

If only the video worked! Sad

My daughters have recently become obsessed with the vacuum, well technically, the hose for the central vac. This can even trump MOM! My wife got home the other day, and they did the usual "MOMMY!" and ran for the door only to stop dead in their tracks as the vacuum hose was out... VACUUM! haha, now if only I could teach them to use it!

Get her a play vaccum. Maybe she will be so caught up on the fact she has one of her very own, she'll forget about the "big people" one and the ever-so intresting hose. Very Happy= :D

Bug hasan intrest in my vaccum as well.
I'll to get it out of the closet..

"Vaccum?"
Me: Yep!
Then she hauls ass to the couch. Puts her fingers in her ears.
Once I'm done she will run up to me to "help" me rewrap the cord.
And we both push it back into the closet.
And btw...
When I say "help" What it really is, is getting in Mommy's way and slowing the future cleaning process down.
But I love her effort. She's helpful with everything. She's a great child. Right proud of my little punky.

I thought about getting them a toy vacuum, but then the warmer weather came, and their tricycles and water table are all they talk about now.

Ah, yes the ever nice, appreciated, and will be good later in life, but excrutiatingly slow help! lol

Speaking of slow, my girls are at the age now where they want to do everything on their own. Put on your rain boots.... 15 minutes later.... cute, necessary, but "sigh".
