I guess this is gonna sound cold, but I am I the only one who really doesn't give a fescue?
The guy was a moron.
Sure, the ending of any life is sad. And he did a lot of great things. But he wasnt Jesus Christ
Just another guy who made himself more important than he should have been and now, like all humans, he has died.
Who cares?
All people die.
Why is his death anymore important?
I ask honestly, cause I dont understand.

Ya I'm kinda with ya on this one Six. I've never been a fan of his, or pretty much any pop music for that matter...but the dude had a lot of fans. He's a big star, as fucked up as he was, (IMHO) so it's gonna be big news for a bit that he's dead. Doesn't affect me, but then like I say I'm not a fan.

So this leads me to another question.

Elvis.
Guy was freaking huge.
Were there guys like me going..."Who cares?"

idk..Maybe if I did at all like any of his music it would have some kind of impact.

The guy snuck away with the rights to all The Beatles songs and wouldn't even sell them back if I remember right. He spent his whole life trying to get away from it, and now he has.
Big whoop.

It not about his death more a celebration of his life. Yeah the dude may have been creepy but he was a cornerstone of the industry for so many years.
He made not just good music but great music that transcended the globe.

Am I the only one who is suddenly more amused by Thriller? Honestly, when I heard at work today the only thing I could think was, "Hope they weld his coffin shut. Wouldn't want him goin' all Thriller on us and raisin' an army of undead.
We'd hafta get Bruce Campbell in here the clean up the mess."

Considering all the Elvis stuff, I wonder when they're going to start in with the Micheal Jackson Still Alive? rumors. If the good ol' Weekly World News tabloid was still in business, it would already be in print.

Before I start this, remember that I listen to the heaviest of heavy metal and have for years. The shit I listen to would melt your faces.

Why is this important? Besides the fact that he owned the 80's?.....never mind his work prior or his measure of success after.

Forget the child molestation accusations for a quick sec.

I won't argue here but I will state one thing.

Say what you will and disagree if you want but anyone my age (34) or slightly older/younger that says they didn't like MJ is full of it. We were young and he was the shit. I owned Thriller AND Bad and I listened to AC/DC and Metaillica even when I was young.

He is an icon, not because he made himself so but because the world made him so. He was the first "megastar" of my generation. Regardless how his popularity suffered here, he's never lost it over seas. And regardless about the accusations and his music later look at the charity money he's raised and the causes he's fought for.

Was he nuts? A child star, abused by his father but he persevered and stayed successful for 40 years. If only I had that much success.

Crazy yes but I won't diminish what he accomplished. I also won't say I didn't like him as I know i did.

Why even care enough to say anything here? Why the hell not? Cool

You can dispute and try to look all blahzay but you won't convince me.

RIP MJ. No loss of life is a "big whoop". No offense. And to be honest, I haven't like MJ since 88....just sayin'.

Later days and better lays.

He never had a childhood because of how much his father pushed him, and he kept pushing him. That can cause damage to the brain, what his father did. All that pushing gives the feeling that his father didn't love him as a child, I'm pretty sure if you weren't loved by your parents as a child, you would have some messed up feelings in the head too. The love of the world doesn't equal the love of someone close to you. The world loved him mostly for his musical talent, whereas a person close to him would love him for who he is.

When he finally gets an opportunity to try to be a child again, he is labeled a pedophile by the media. The parents of those children who were "molested" obviously allowed the children to go to the Neverland Ranch to try and get publicity, along with the accusations.

Sure, deaths happen everyday, but instead of saying "Big whoop, people die every day." I honor the dead, if I hear that person down the street died, RIP. I don't go to their funeral and say "Big whoop." This is a memorial thread to honor him and respect him. Sure, I'm not crying or feeling a lot of sorrow for this death, same with many other deaths, but that doesn't mean I won't honor their deaths. He did do good stuff in his life by revolutionizing music. When someone dies, you look past any bad things and remember them for the good. He made changes in the way music is today, I respect him for that.

I'm not saying honor everyone who dies every day, but hopefully you get what I mean.
I don't really want to discuss this further, those were just my 2 cents.

Rest in Peace Michael. Your music was pretty good, but I preferred the older stuff. [Bad, Beat It, Thriller, etc...] I know you're in a better place now.

Also, I just woke up a little while ago, so my words may not have come out the right way.

I agree about this being a memorial thread, Ninjey, which is why I haven't posted in here. Very Happy= :D

But MJ had the chance to be a kid long before he started showing porno to young children, dude, there were many opportunities for him after he conquered the pop world... Doesn't make sense to me. silent

I really didn't expect a philosophical discussion to erupt here, of all places. Laughing

I understand saying of someone "I'd like to see them dead."
I understand saying of someone "I hope they'll never die. / I hope they live for as long as they're happy/care to."

I can't get my head around the apathy of saying "He's dead, big whoop."
Because it's him, and he doesn't merit more b/c of what he did or didn't do? Or because no one is worthy of more?
In another comment, you say that he's no Jesus Christ. Interesting analogy. Wink So he's a big whoop because you think so... What if I don't think so, of Christ, for example? Do I earn points, positive or negative, for so saying?

I don't object to anyone's right to having an opinion. And I'm certainly not so naive as to think that I'm entitled somehow to be free from offense.

...Meh, it's a tribute thread, but it's a discussion thread, too. I'm with JB and ninja here.

Forgetting that he was a bit of a loon for a moment... When I watch the news as night, I cringe to the point of looking away from the screen when I hear someone's kid was killed in an accident. Perhaps one can't get one's head around that until they become a parent.

He was someone's kid. I have yet to look at the tv and say 'big whoop'. That's all I'm saying.

What, Michael J Fox is dead too? Shocked

So, this morning I'm sitting on the Peter Pan ride at Disneyland and this evening I get home to find out Neverland's other resident is dead. The symmetry of my day interests me.

And Thriller was an awesome album. I have it on vinyl and was thinking about buying it again on CD but now everyone would just think I'm buying it 'cause he's dead, so I'll wait a while there. Embarassed

And what's with Al Sharpton calling Jackson a person of colour? Does that mean that only non-white people have a colour? Why is such racist language tolerated in the US? I too am a person 'of colour', it's just that my colour is white, well, pinky yellow like most northern Europeans (and sometimes bluish white in winter, like 99% of Scots).
