This seems like a pretty sweet place, but there's just too many boards on these forums... 1 for every system with less than 20 in each board total... Might as well just merge them and have a general video games chat...

Well, you are right in the numbers.
But if all goes well, and we gain people, and time goes by and we see more games released, I'd be dividing them all up again anyhow.

Most of us merged from a Ps3 forum... Actually, I haven't seen a single person I haven't recognized. Sure, there's people with different counsels, but I don't think there will be enough to facilitate a board per counsel. I think that a general video games chat would work fine, especially since the majority, if not all of us, are Ps3 based players.

I think if the popularity comes then it shouldn't be too bad of a thing to have all of those game boards, however, I think boards should be reordered to reflect activity. From what I see, the blogs, clan chats, and random boards are the most active, so they should be put at the top, then the PS3, 360, Nintendo boards. I always have to scroll down to see my favorite boards

I think the boards should be merged, but not into one category. Instead, there should just be a "General Nintendo", "General Sony", and "General Microsoft" boards. Each of these boards would be devoted soley to that specific console/handheld.

This would definitely reduce board clutter.

I'm just saying that when I see this place and how it's used, I would say that Random is used much more than the gaming ones. What's more, I bet if you look, outside of your clan thread...your top 5 or 6 threads will all be located in there.

And to reduce the clutter, maybe have a Random board and a Media board (which covers the books and the music and such) Sometimes less is more

Most popular boards at the bottom, means you have to scroll past other boards to get to them and might see something new.

Ya, seeing all of these boards gets me a bit overwhelmed... Which is why I stick to two boards and is why I didn't want to come here at first, tbh.

Seriously i had to search for 30 mins to look at every place. JB has about 7 sections, with bout 2-4 sub sections, then the threads.

We did change them since this thread started, the previous post before yours was in July, and since then we had a huge tidy-up and cleaning weeks.

Now we have:

1. News and reviews: things about the site, general news and your own views on whatever.

2. Games / headquarters: organized by console. Any game you want to talk about, you just go to this section.

3. Entertainment: anything else that is not gaming related: music, books, tv, etc

4. Clans: for clans, obviously

5. User gen: anything you have made personally: montages, sigs, walkthroughs, etc.

What do you mean when you say that it took you 30 min? Do you think we have too many sub-sections? Or do you think it is not clear where to find what?

I don't know maybe like too many sub sections. Like Jb has all music, movies, tv, etc under "the escape".

We have already condensed our boards greatly, yes. Almost makes one laugh to think about it.

My guess is it took you so long to get through them all KI, because we have over or about 8 months of posting here.
This forum was set up in March. Its now October. The number of sub sections really has nothing to do with it I don't think..., because whether ALL those threads were in one category, or the different ones they are in now, it woulds still take the same amount of time to go through them all. We can change the number of Cats etc all we want, but the number of threads would still be the same. So my concern is more in line with Seys question. Are things not where they should be? etc. I ask only because in all the shifts, and as some boards have been removed I cant say everything was put where it should have been. On top of that, I sometimes miss new threads being made in the wrong spot, or doublers..(the retribution thread a good ex.)

We do have more sub sections in a few spots yes, but its because we have threads to fill them. I had debated just placing all "Entertainment" threads in one general cat, very much like SC on MyRes but thought things would get too messy and mixed up. If that's not the case, and users in general would rather it be that way, it can be done. But the way this search feature works here, I cant say I'd advise it. It would pretty much be...One Entertainment Board under random Chat with all TV Movie Music and books threads all inside it. Ill let the forum users give feed back on that.

The comparisons to OGOB are a little moot in that they are 2 different types of gamers forums, being run by two different staffs. IMO this is a good thing. Both are great forums, but to have them similar would be repetitive and boring.
Not to mention they are being built under different blueprints even if the goal is the same. One is designed around gaming ladders and competition, while one is much more casual and laid back and about just finding gamers to play with from all over.

I just use the "view posts since last visit" thing. It cuts down on having to navigate the board.

I a) use email notifications and b) use the flashing christmas tree lights on the index page to tell me where to look. The only reason I can see it would take a long time to look through is if you were starting from scratch and wanted to look at every thread.

I just looked at OGOB and they currently have 12000+ posts in 260 topics. We're at 28000+ posts in 590 topics, so that's pretty much 2 for 1 at the moment. Now, if you look at our index page we have 26 boards, OGOB has 17, so that's 1.5 for 1 which means this forum actually has fewer topics on the front page pro-rata than OGOB does.

i like these forums beter than ogob
just takes me awhile to go through all the boards
im only about 5% done

Forget it. You guys have too many threads to condense. It is better to have all those. And it's not like a read through every page of every thread.
