When I was younger, and will very soon, played lots and lots of RTS games. I always enjoyed these, and had many favorites like Rise of Nations, Age of Empires and Age of Mythology. These are great constructive games that let you think as well as have lots of fun. They are more realistic and please post your thoughts on these types of games Cool

I'm not sure the RTS games I played were realistic. Warcraft 2 (one of my first games EVER), Starcraft (also one of my first games ever), Warcraft 3, Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War and Mech Commander were some of my RTS games. I've lost a lot of interest in them over the years, as I found them very slow paced a lot of the time and I enjoy the feeling of being IN the game, as opposed to watching it from the outside. I still have awesome memories of them as a kid though, playing my friends and having my first online experiences.

And while I wasn't very good at them, it was an awesome feeling when you finally manage to destroy that awesome player's final base and be one opponent closer to winning the game (though I never won that often Razz )

Command & Conquer was my first run through RTS Games on the ps1. Loved em. Got Age of Empires on the PS2, I could play a skirmish on that for hours just building a city and expanding. Played one map for 10 hours straight. Got Civilisation Revolutions on the PS3 and C&C Red alert 3 but I want another new Age of Empires.

Oh right, forgot about Civilization. My sister and I used to play summer-long games of Civilization 4. Now that game was HARD, once you got up on the higher difficulty settings. There was just so much you had to look after, and so much that you had to think about to keep your cities running. Twas good times, though Smile

Problem with civ 4 on the PS3 is the time limits though, I hate that.

Ugh. I didn't even know that there was a PS3 version. We played it on Mac, and that version was really good. Never crashed once (although it's on a Mac, so I wouldn't expect less Razz ) and the games can go on forever! (Thus the summer long games.)

I'm not a big RTS type kind of guy. Don't get me wrong, they are a helluva lot of fun at times, they just aren't my thing.

I do have two RTS games though: Tom Clancy's EndWar (PS3) and Star Wars: Empire at War (PC).

EndWar is fun, but it's online is terribly unbalanced towards newer players. It's hard to do well when the other guy has almost all maxed out soldiers. Mad

I think my love for the game died when my Infantry unit "Icepick" were KIA...they were almost maxed level too... No

Never got into the online, all I could think was I would rather play an RTS that another gamer would also give time to set everything up then go to war rather than straight at it like the zerg rush tactic.

I think I had a couple of matches where the other guy and I set up our soldiers than launched our respective offensive campaigns. Most of the matches, though, were indeed just mad dashes to the nodes.

Either way, I lost a lot of the battles. Mad

Agreed. Usually it has more of an "epic" feel when the two armies finally do clash.

And if you do lose at least you know it was because of your chosen Strategy.

I am a big fan of Civilization, so is my dad who actually was so addicted to it my mom made him throw it out, Blizzard's RTSs, Warcraft III and Starcraft mainly, and soon to be Starcraft II, but probably my favorite RTSs are the Total War series, loving Empire Total War especially when I play as Prussia, I also have the two battle for middle-earth games, don't have rise of the witch king yet, but definitely cannot wait for Shogun II, comes out in 2011 should be awesome to unite Japan
