Lol nah mossy, I just think it pointless to argue over which system is better when you can just play the game and enjoy it instead of people going bananas cause one person says "It'll play better on the Xbox" next thing you know the pitchforks and torches come out along with the foaming at the mouth. That's what bugs me.
When I was reading the article I was thinking, "meh, if I have the money I'll still get it." I'm old school, I lived through the Commodores rainbow fit inducing loading screens I think I can deal with a less framerate when I don't really notice it anyway.

I hear ya'. The game looks to be really good. I just wish it had a better co-op game play. From what I've read co-op is extra missions based on the story. Comp mp is an arena mode but that will get very minimal play time from me if at all. The style looks like a borderlands/fallout (both of which made me wet )mix and should have quite a few hours of game play.

Aye same on the above, for the game style and liking the look. What I'll do is get a week or so after release. Cause that's when I get paid.

I pre-ordered as well
almost 7 minutes of gameplay shown on current main site front page ... it does look pretty darn nice, love the weapon wheel already.
There's no way I could convince my parents to get me five games in a month's span, especially since I'm getting a sweet new guitar next week.

rhynox,
all, I don't believe there is really anything in this spoiler that is actually a spoiler (common knowlege on all current reviews). But just in case, I'll wrap this.
Spoiler:
I played to wellsprings (still very early into the game). In the past, I have not enjoyed RPG's. So far this game is not as fast paced as say R3, or as dull as I've found RPG's in the past. So far the mix does seem just about right. I'm enjoying looking around and yet the weapons, AI and battles so far have made for some good game play.
I do find myself simply scanning the horizon and enjoying the art work/graphics/texturing. As a lot of others have mentioned, I'd love to get HD res packs (heck I don't care about the disk space) to see the diff jumping up from 720. I do see myself doing all the side missions and spending the time to explore this map.
I started on "normal" difficulty and the battles have been a bit too easy so far, but there are two levels above this, and I've only fought the first two or three battles in the game so, like other games, I assume even normal will get tougher before the supposed final battle let down.
In Wellsprings, it seems the time to learn to drive and upgrade your buggy and funny car.
This seems to be a pretty fast process where you are going to have to do a fair amount of racing, but the needed points come quickly. I'm in the middle of this now, and as other reviews have mentioned, this really is a fun diversion from RPG and FPS with a TPS mixed in with the driving.
I'm not in a big hurry to blast through this entire game in a single setting, and so I will bump this thread with further thoughts as I play the game over the next while.
So far however - two thumbs up for the PS3 version! I'm glad I bought it so far.
one WARNING for new players - This game does autosave progress, at very major progress points - however, it is up to you (trust me, don't forget) to manually do savepoints at whatever points in time you would like to make a "checkpoint" that you might be used to at reasonable times/distances in other FPS games.
This really is a nice feature ... if you remember. I guess It shows the enjoyment of the game, where I got engrossed and forgot -- twice -- and had to do MAJOR playovers upon dying.
Hope that helps.
edit: btw, I'm not one that cares a whole lot about the "story" I'm into FPS's for the game play, not the story. I do understand that this is not the case for many. I would concur with what I've seen said in most other reviews about the story line, so far, but that is not a issue for me.

This is one of the nicest looking games I've ever seen ! It is a pleasure to just look around and absorb your surroundings.

I read that upon finishing the last mission, you are done and cannot go back and work on things that you had not completed. Thus I did not finish the last mission but indeed went back.
31 hours of game play in, I finished all “jobs”, including 2nd pass sewer missions (anarchy preorder), various Easter eggs (3 goal posts were a hoot), Dev room, bobble heads, mini games, trophies that required completion in one pass/game and was working on finishing the remaining races I had not done and Blame – “failed to save data” error while racing.
It hard looped on this and I had to turn off the PS3 to recover. Now every time I load up I get a load error that says it has disabled trophies before even coming to the main menu.
OUCH.
Was it R2 that had some early on issues with people corrupting their data?
Anyway, I don’t have the heart – yet – to nuke my user data and hope it even allows my user to start over (trophies all synched up with psn).
Man, I really was enjoying this game up to this point. I was so close to a main path “Nightmare” run for the platinum.
Major bummer.

Don't take this the wrong way but... trophies aren't everything. The gameplay is what you should really be going after. I understand that trophies give you a sense of accomplishment and I know first had how annoying it can be to get cheated out of a trophy but don't feel bad, most people will never check your trophy stats. It's more for you, does that make sense?

Sure, I understand, there does seem to be various groups of interest in games. I'm sure this makes it very hard for the game developers. For example, some love/expect a good story. Carmack (lead ID software engineer) was quoted as saying a story for a FPS is like a story for a porn movie -- not really needed.
I agree with this as I love the game play and don't care about the story much at all. Not so for some.
However, I do like to go for the platinum’s anymore as they force me out of my comfort zone and force me to use weapons, techniques etc. that I don’t normally use while in the first pass heat of battle.
In the case of rage (partial RPG), going after full completion also left me exploring and learning the map much more than simply taking the main, FPS game play path from beginning to end (i.e. goal posts, bobble heads, dev. Room, all cards, all recipes, mini games etc. took a lot of exploring 31 hours verses likely 12 or so).
I don't mind going back and working on trophies, just to fully appreciate the work gone into the games.

Timpangos.. check your trophys on psn they should be up there as the game data doesn't store them. I played some Rage this weekend only cleaned out the ghosts, but had some fun looking around.

psn has all the trophies earned up to the point it blew. However, I assume it is not going to record any others.
There are some things - trophies included - which you must do in any given single pass of the game; these are the ones I focused on. Others are accumulative over all passes for a given user (i.e. 20 silent kills etc.).
I doubt psn is going to do a reverse synch (i.e. I delete my user data on the ps3) and it resyncs back from psn. I worry that when I do nuke my user data, in hopes that all will work normally next pass, that things on both sides will get all synched up.
I’ve never tried this before, has anyone delete user data on a game that had trophies synched up. Does If you start playing a game again, how does psn and the game react?
I think that old r2 bug I mentioned had some issue here that after you had corrupted the user data, you were dorked.

All spitting at Tim aside, what is the general consensus on this game? Buy it? Wait a bit? Eat pancakes? It's on my list, but I don't know how high on the list it should be, and I have a lot of other games on it. Oh, hai der.

I enjoyed the game enough, that I totally deleted all saves/dlc and the game and reinstalled it to get the trophies error fixed and start a pass on nightmare difficulty.
Already cleared the missions leading up to going to Wellspring as well as the first pass of the first four sewers.
It's not a multi-player that will hold my attention, but the driving is fun enough in game, as well as the RPG aspects of the mini-games, towns people, several "easter egg" type deals etc. between the intensity of some of the missions.
There may not be any "story" to this, but the graphics and gameplay setup a very intense atmosphere/feel that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I've been playing this game a bit the last few days. I like it a lot, its a good mix of a FPS and a driving game. AI is varied and smart so its a bit of a challenge. The driving is fun and you have all sorts of fun ways to kill banditos. One of the best contol schemes and feel I've used ...it is just smooth. The graphics are among fantastic and the music sfx is solid. No dropped framerate at all on the PS3. When you fire a gun its feels and sounds great. Not regretting buying this new at all. I haven't played the MP yet and may not. maybe I'll get more for a trade in if I don't.
