Spiritual successor, not direct sequel. It's made by the same people, and the mechanics are much the same, but there's no story connection.

Oh, it's very, very not like Dragon Age, aside from the psudo-Medieval setting.

C, that trailer made me HOT ... Seriously, I picked up DS as a fluke, I'm finally looking forward to a game

At first I was a bit thrown by the fact we're playing as an undead. Of course, thinking about it for a second, I realized that's pretty much what you were doing last time too. Just didn't think of it that way. More like you were 'mortally inconvenienced' or something.

ROFL .. that's one way of looking at it ....
I used to play soul-form all the time, well, most of the time. Except when BP hunting

Yeah, you pretty much had to if you wanted to just do the levels. Did have a couple good matches against BPs that invaded though. One in which I discovered the rolling slash was fun. Halfway through Shrine of Storms I get the invasion message. I begin running back towards the start, Thief Ring equipped, and get to the ledges. Apparently he had his Thief Ring on as well and we surprised each other. Well, my go-to move when surprised is to roll. The only way to roll was forward, and I accidentally mashed attack along with it in the confusion. *slice* BP defeated.
Another one in the Swamp didn't go so well, but we lead each other a merry chase. I had just dropped the bridge back to the start of the level and I get invaded. Well, crap. Across he runs after I bolt. Wasn't looking for a fight at the time. He nearly catches up on the walkway, but I ninja dive out of the way...into the swamp. He follows, but I manage to avoid his strikes (barely) and make it to ground fist (Black Leather Armor = no poison/disease, ftw) and just keep running. I make it all the way back to the island with the three huge goblins, pass it and make it to the next small island in the corner that leads up to the ramps (towards the slug cluster). I notice I've made a fair lead, so I go on the offensive and pull out my fire arrows while he can't dodge in the swamp. Didn't deal much damage though as he pulled out a fire resist shield. I back far enough away that he can't lunge from the edge, but I gave him too much room and he grassed before I could sword him. I dodge his retaliating strike and once more into the swamp I go. He follows me all the way back to the boss door area, us dodging and attacking back and forth when I misstep and roll into the swamp (again). I see him land right behind me and I accidentally try to roll again. *Backstab* Was a good run though. Sent the guy a 'Good Fight' message and got one in return.

Yeah dude, I rented Demons Souls from Gamefly, beat it, enjoyed the hell out of it, then returned it. I was just confused if this Dark Souls was a sequel or not, I played Dragon Age, couldnt get past the first part, very confusing, kept dying tons, and I returned that shit quick. Looking forward to this, especially if it has co op missions!

Here's an excellent old post from Reddit about Demon's Souls. Gives you an idea of what you can expect in Dark Souls. Also, funny as heck.
Quote :
Let me tell you about Demon's Souls.
Demon’s Souls is a game that will make you into a man. A scrawny fourteen-year-old, after two hours with this game, will be grooming his muttonchops and ready to ship off on the next boat to fight the Kaiser. If you are already a man, it will make you into some sort of bizarre double-man. What’s that you say? You’re a woman? You don’t want to be a man? Too bad. Too bad. That’s the Demon’s Souls way.
You’ve probably heard that Demon’s Souls is hard. Pshh. Lots of games are hard. Some are even harder than this one. The difficulty is not the point. What sets Demon's Souls apart is the way that it doesn't just kill you, but also stomps on your genitals when you’re down. And it will make you realize that that’s what you needed all along.
It’s a lot like life. Sometimes in life you win, and sometimes the giant armored skeleton stabs your face off because the flying mantis monster you didn’t even see shot you in the back with a spike at just the wrong time. And when that happens in life, do you respawn at the same spot and carry on like nothing happened? NO, asshole. You go back to the beginning of the level, leaving all your hard-earned souls out there on the pavement, and you fight your way back. And you learn a lesson from the whole thing, because you should have been wearing your Thief’s Ring, now shouldn’t you? That’s life.
The trend in hard games these days is to unlock “Easy” mode for you once you’ve died enough times. Do you think Demon’s Souls does that? Do you think Demon’s Souls is so much as aware of the concept of “Easy” mode? NO IT IS NOT. If Demon’s Souls even knew we were talking about “Easy” mode, it would come over here and kick the shit out of all of us. And we would deserve it.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because Feck you is why.
Have I told you about the online elements? At any time when you’re in Body form, another player from anywhere else in the world can invade your game and murder you to regain his own body, or just to keep you on your toes. This happens when you’re in the middle of fighting armies of unthinkable monsters that are probably already three-quarters of the way towards killing you. And no, you cannot opt out of this feature! This is what you signed up for when you agreed to be a man.
When this happened to me -- when a guy strolled into my game like it was Taco Bell and exploded my torso, costing me my body and all my progress in the level -- was I mad? No, because I was too busy being in awe at how fecking hardcore the experience was.
Now, don’t let this dissuade you. Demon’s Souls is a pitiless master, but let it never be said that it is not fair. The game rewards handsomely those who stand up to it, and the greater the challenge, the greater the glory.
What the hell are you waiting for?

Good to see that Blue Phantoms are a little more defined now. You can actually see the character model and stuff.
Their main guy must be overpowered for the demo though. Things are looking in his direction, sometimes even touching him, and he's not dying.

Couple more trailers. First one's mostly action.
Song doesn't really fit, but that's not to say it's bad.
This one's all story. Mostly background. More of those to come, they say.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Written by a guy who played the final build.
Dark Souls releases tomorrow in Japan, and according to Japanese blog Esuteru, gamers with an early copy are in for a surprise.
In order to punish those who have the game early, From Software will take advantage of a feature that allows players to move into other worlds. The publisher has sent max-level Black Phantoms into the worlds of early gamers, confronting them with an enemy that's impossible to beat.
Phantoms are level 145, with 1900 HP and every stat set to the maximum of 99. There's no word on if the enemies will be removed upon the game's official release.
Dark Souls will release in North America on October 4.
I kinda hope they put one in as an optional boss.
