I dont really use shields. I rely on dodge mostly.

I think I am very close to the church. running into dudes with shields and capes

Yup. You'll know when you get there. Trust me. Twisted Evil

No shield is like Dark Souls' hard mode. Best of luck with that. People do it, it's true, just hard by comparison.

yea I figured as much. the problem is getting to the church. I am focusing on dexterity, and when my only dexterity heavy weapon breaks It suddenly becomes a lot harder.

well im not not use it. I just dont think it works too well with my character. plus dodging avoids all damage, blocking sometimes only stops some of the damage. I feel better off dodging then blocking.

also is there no inventory limit?

How much damage is blocked depends on the shield. Most metal shields have 100% physical block, so most basic attacks will do nothing. Fire, Magic, etc. attacks, of course, it depends on those resistances.

If you really need to repair, you can go back to Firelink, go down the stairs near teh bonfire, then down an elevator, and then to the right along another cliff face with stairs goin down toward the water (not the obvious stairs either) and inside a little cage is another Blacksmith. You will have to work your way all the way back if you rest at a bonfire anywhere between there. But if not, you can Homeward Bone or just suicide to get back quickly.

And no, there's no limit.
The only weight that matters is the weight of the equipment you have on, not what you're carrying. You can eventually get a storage box usable at bonfires to cut down on scrolling.

sounds like its be more of a pain to get back then it would going forward.

you have no idea how happy I am to hear there is no limit. so many games put a limit on it and I really hate dealing with being overemcumbered

Those guys in capes are easy to deal with as long as you don't let them get their thrust attack to hit, killed me in one blow.

BTW, definitely kill the tower knight in the church, he is guarding a great item.

in the future can you please avoid saying stuff like that? it ruins my experimentation a bit. thanks.

the annoying thing is just having to run through the same crap over and over again. the part I die the most is where I fight the guy in the cape on that really narrow area, with the spear guy on the other side of me. I have been jumping over him and running to the open area ahead with the other enemies, but that also presents its own set of problems. like trying to kill them 1st while avoiding the capers attacks. and not being in the spot where the archer can shoot at me. I will get it. (and I did once already until the black knight killed me) it will just take some time. Luckily I am a very patient person, who doesnt really get frustrated. (despite all my complaints of the game being cheap, haven't gotten mad at all.

Do you go along the outside walkway or through the tunnel on the left ?, I chose tunnel and lured them out one by one.
With the Tower Knight, it's really just about learning his move set, his recovery time for a few of his attacks is slow which is when you get your hits in.

the outside walkway I guess. I go straight.

The problem isnt his move set. The biggest issue I am having right now is dealing with the enemies right before it they are fast. I need to practice fighting them. If I had more potions when i got to the fight it wouldnt be an issue.

and I think I just died so many times I got a sympathy flask. I had 6 instead of 5,

If you get some humanity, you can kindle the bonfire to get 10 estus flasks instead of 5, great to do if you are having issues with a particular area. The rats you encountered under the dragon are great for farming humanity.

I cant kindle a fire yet I need to know the ritual 1st dont i?

EDIT: either way I am not that concerned about it, I want to get down this fight as is. Id rather build by skills then use potions to power through.

yes,

I hate sloped combat in this game. and they really couldnt of put the boss fight in a worse location. I'd prefer a tight cramped space to a slopes and pits.

EDIT: that boss fight was so hard for me, then I remembered I could use Y to use both hands. Then I beat it with only getting hit once. Being able to kill the 1st one before the 2nd got over to me really made things go so much smoother.

Well I a gotta get ready for work now. But after beating the boss wasnt really sure which way I was supposed to go. Headed down into the Darkwater Basin. went all the way down to drake valley which seems like somewhere I am not supposed to go, then headed off and fought some ice creatures. they were super easy to kill, but there was a water hydra that was doing some serious damage to me. Also seems like not where I am supposed to go. I am going to head up and take a different path in darkwater. (I went down because a message said to turn that way, going to go straight instead this time) Also if I am not supposed to be in darkwater basin at all please dont tell me. I am having fun exploring where I may or may not supposed to be. and not knowing if I am actually supposed to be here is half the fun.

Also I plan on farming some souls to buy the stuff to upgrade the uchigana blade. (currently I am using a +5 scimitar, but I think the extra bleeding effect from uchi could be useful) I may or may not actually farm the souls depending on how things go.

In my playthrough I actually cleared out darkroot garden including it's boss before even going after the gargoyles, that pesky hydra in the basin got on my nerves a bit so never went after him .

The game sometimes doesn't exactly tell you where to go so exploring random areas is something I did a bit myself until I figured out where to go next.

I dont think I went into the gardens. I ended up in the basin

also the fact that you can go there before even killing the gargoyles is why I am pretty sure it is not where i am supposed to go

There is a main path but there are areas you can clear out as extras, some are obviously meant to be left for later but the darkroot garden is perfectly manageable, I'll let you find it yourself Wink .

yea darkroot garden is down the obvious path. I took the less obvious one. Went to fight the butterfly thing. Have a really hard time dodging its scattershot attack. Though I did end up crafting a better longbow. just about to go kill it (hopefully) last time I almost had it but ran out of arrows

If you don't want to know anything at all, then skip this. But it's not any kind of major spoiler. Just stuff there is no indication about.

Sleep would probably be a good idea.
Have fun with the demon in the phone booth when you get back at it though. Laughing

No big deal. Her stuff isn't that great unless you're pretty magic focused. It is required for one of the trophies, though I don't know how interested you are in those.
And if you want help with who she helped with it's always better to bring real people anyway. She's just an offline option.

the hardest part about the demon is dealing with the dog things 1st. thats whats been getting me. Haven't had much issue avoiding his attacks.

ive not go anything in magic.

I dont really care for trophies all that much. Cant I just grab it on NG+ though?

Also I dont like summoning people into my game. Did it once. totally killed the challenge.

EDIT: sleep isnt a big deal. This is all part of my weekly routine. I generally stay up for 30-40 hours between sunday and monday

Summoning is a mixed bag, it's true. You get people who are overpowered sometimes. They may be there to help, but don't take into account that doing so with too powerful gear and one-shotting bosses isn't really fun for the summoner, especially if it's their first go around.
However, if you can get someone also at your power level that is struggling with the boss same as you are, then it really builds the feeling of camaraderie when you put them down. When you're at that point, it's not uncommon for people to beat the boss, then drop their summon sign to help those who just helped them.

Unfortunately, Invasions are the same way. If you get someone with similar gear, great fun and an awesome challenge. But you have to really beware of twinked out characters. Guys who have glitched high end gear onto a low level character. Unless they are also hacking, they are still entirely beatable, which is great, but with their every move a threat to one-shot you, that sucks.

With the Capra Demon as soon as I got past his initial spring he wasn't so much of an issue, the small arena is really annoying and another reason the boss can be a challenge to new players/low level characters. As you said, once you kill the dogs he's a lot more manageable.

I actually killed the butterfly with melee, dodged it's attacks and then when it comes in close I could take off a third of it's health each time with the drake sword, that thing is a beast early game.
