PostSubject: Battlefield 2042   Battlefield 2042 EmptyFri Sep 10, 2021 9:54 am

Through looking on some of the different boards here, it seems like there is a present interest in the upcoming Battlefield game! I really enjoyed BF5, and have enjoyed DICE shooters quite a bit with the recent Star Wars Battlefront games as well. A bit over a month until this drops, so I thought I'd create a space for us to feed the hype for the new edition! I'll probably be picking it up at some point, especially if there's interest from others here. Anyone planning on getting it at/around launch?

It's supposed to be crossplay for PC/PS5/XboxSeriesX and PS4/XboxOne so I might get it. I just installed BF4 because I haven't used my Ultimate Pass much lately. If BF2042 is included in the Ultimate Pass and EA Play I'll probably play it.

I've been seeing a lot of crazy clips from the beta. Looks like people are having fun with it. I'm glad it seems to be getting a positive response. I'm not a Battlefield guy, but I want it to wipe the floor with Vanguard to see if Activision may make some changes on their product.

Dang, would love to play with you Jones. Still on the last gen, though, and probably will be for some time. Just looked up that only new gens have crossplay, which makes sense, but makes me feel left out lol.

yup, I did play it. Like all Battlefield games there will be issues at launch, but overall the game is super fun and I enjoyed it. I bought the BF 2042 version that is PS5/PS4 so if it works out timing wise we can try and get some games in on the battlefield.

For sure! I may snag the PS4/5 version as well, just in case I happen to get one in the coming year.

Looking at some of the feedback that the beta has received, I'm not crazy about some of the changes that they seem to have made. I loved the uniqueness and team aspect that came about through the different classes, which led to you trying to find a way to be well balanced to win games, so I'm sad to hear that the class system is out. The awesome thing about Battlefield for me is feeling like I'm a cog in a big system, where each player has a specific role to play that goes a level deeper than just getting the best loadout to kill. I think that getting rid of classes, each with their pros and cons, will lead to way less people prioritizing support and medic roles.

I'm also skeptical about the intense in-game tweaking that seems to be prioritized with the plus system, and how much focus may be put on micromanaging your gun and ammo. That nitty-gritty strategy isn't exactly what I'm going for in a Battlefield game, but rather the grander tactics of having complimentary classes and coordinated play from squad leaders giving orders.

In your time with the beta did you have any thoughts related to the specialist vs. classes or the plus system, Jones?

Yeah I feel like gamers are just whiners. The specialist do have classes they can now just use any gun they want which I appreciate. Everyone mainly complained because of the lack of variety and because it was difficult to tell friends vs foe apart because everyone looked the same (which I agree needs to be changed) but there will be 10 specialist at launch and more as time goes along. I dont feel like it breaks the game at all, but if I wanted to be a medic who provides ammo to my team because we are making a big push, I can now do that, and I think it opens of the possibilities of having a squad lockdown a sector or take/hold a section in breakthrough.

The plus system is great, you can never use it and it really doesnt destroy the game for you, but I mainly play breakthrough/operations and you have sections that are open and you need to be able to see or catch lurking snipers, but then take a section and progress and now be in close quarters buildings, and the ability to quick swap a scope and add or remove a grip is a real nice addition. (Some people will obsess over it, but I think thats totally unnecessary you just make an adjustment based on the current plan you are working). In previous games people would commit suicide in order to make those item swaps, this is a much more elegant solution.

I know my household is looking forward to this next Battlefield. We'll be on the Xbox for anyone looking to squad up. Probably be just my wife and I, our son tends to be too cool to game with his mom and dad, lol…

I'm curious to see what the response is with the full game. Once you've got a good feel for it, let me know if your opinion of the game changes for better or worse, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] . I'll be holding off on getting it at least at first, but hope to catch you in a game at some point if I like what I see.

I am loving it, I played all weekend and havent even touched Hazard Zone or Portal yet. The game is sheer fun, the maps are great except for a few of the tower points in breakthrough, the antics are top notch Battlefield.
I like the progression system, some of the medals are actually a little to hard to obtain lol

Biggest issues -
PC Performance (which it seems is driver related, many have had success with a work around increasing FPS)
its a DICE game - so the launch is buggy as hell, (some people are whining saying BF4 is much better... which was probably one of the worst game launches in history but they werent their for that)
The worst of the game is server lag, in ability to revive people near walls, and sometimes not being able to respawn into a game or spawn into a game with your loadouts during peak server hours, doesnt seem to happen in off hours.

___
I have been a day one Battlefield player since Bad Company 1 (if you want to skip all the headaches/growing pains from bugs needing to be sorted out, you will likely need to wait until Feb/March) If you can deal with the bugs, I think youll love it, especially if you have friends to play with.

BF2042 is included in EA Play Pro, which I cannot access with my Ultimate subscription, so I'll have to figure out if I'll have time to play it.

I'll wait for a while and let things iron out and if it looks good I may pick it up during a sale.
