Fallout: New Vegas is a role-playing video game in the Fallout series by Obsidian Entertainment (many employees of which worked for Black Isle Studios on Fallout and Fallout 2). It was released in North America on October 19, 2010, and is scheduled for release on October 22, 2010 in Europe.
Fallout: New Vegas is not a direct sequel to Fallout 3. The game offers a similar role-playing experience as Fallout 3 and events are set three years later. While no characters from the previous game will be used, it's been reported at least one character from Fallout 2 will appear.

Description:
Experience all the sights and sounds of fabulous New Vegas, brought to you by Vault-Tec, America's First Choice in Post Nuclear Simulation. Explore the treacherous wastes of the Great Southwest from the safety and comfort of your very own vault: Meet new people, confront terrifying creatures, and arm yourself with the latest high-tech weaponry as you make a name for yourself on a thrilling new journey across the Mojave wasteland. A word of warning, however - while Vault-Tec engineers have prepared for every contingency,* in Vegas, fortunes can change in an instant. Enjoy your stay.
* Should not be construed as a legally-binding claim. Story:
Welcome to Vegas. New Vegas.
It’s the kind of town where you dig your own grave prior to being shot in the head and left for dead…and that’s before things really get ugly. It’s a town of dreamers and desperados being torn apart by warring factions vying for complete control of this desert oasis. It’s a place where the right kind of person with the right kind of weaponry can really make a name for themselves, and make more than an enemy or two along the way.
As you battle your way across the heat-blasted Mojave Wasteland, the colossal Hoover Dam, and the neon drenched Vegas Strip, you’ll be introduced to a colorful cast of characters, power-hungry factions, special weapons, mutated creatures and much more. Choose sides in the upcoming war or declare “winner takes all” and crown yourself the King of New Vegas in this follow-up to the 2008 videogame of the year, Fallout 3.
Enjoy your stay. Key Features:
* Feel the Heat in New Vegas! Not even nuclear fallout could slow the hustle of Sin City. Explore the vast expanses of the desert wastelands – from the small towns dotting the Mojave Wasteland to the bright lights of the New Vegas strip. See the Great Southwest as could only be imagined in Fallout. * Feuding Factions, Colorful Characters and a Host of Hostiles! A war is brewing between rival factions with consequences that will change the lives of all the inhabitants of New Vegas. The choices you make will bring you into contact with countless characters, creatures, allies, and foes, and determine the final explosive outcome of this epic power struggle. * New Systems! Enjoy new additions to Fallout: New Vegas such as a Companion Wheel that streamlines directing your companions, a Reputation System that tracks the consequences of your actions, and the aptly titled Hardcore Mode to separate the meek from the mighty. Special melee combat moves have been added to bring new meaning to the phrase “up close and personal”. Use V.A.T.S. to pause time in combat, target specific enemy body parts and queue up attacks, or get right to the action using the finely-tuned real-time combat mechanics. * An Arsenal of Shiny New Guns! With double the amount of weapons found in Fallout 3, you’ll have more than enough new and exciting ways to deal with the threats of the wasteland and the locals. In addition, Vault-Tec engineers have devised a new weapons configuration system that lets you tinker with your toys and see the modifications you make in real time. * Let it Ride! In a huge, open world with unlimited options you can see the sights, choose sides, or go it alone. Peacemaker or Hard Case, House Rules, or the Wild Card - it’s all in how you play the game.

I looked for about 10 minutes the other day for a Fallout thread.
Anyway, I just picked this one up. I'm somewhat new to open world games. AC2 and Fallout 3 were my first ones. It took me a while to get use to not being on rails. The beginning of Fallout 3 was kind of hard for me because I didn't know WTF I was supposed to be doing. Once I figured it out, and how to navigate, I really enjoyed it. So, I've been waiting for this one to drop. That wait is now over......well, other than this install.

Since I've had some time with the game now, I could help you build a character.

I'll be going through my own Character builds, I like to try my own ones out first. How are you finding it though? Compared to Fallout 3?

There aren't many huge differences, and the biggest ones are by virtue of me playing it on Hardcore. Skill challenges are different, since there is no longer a % chance of succeeding on it; you either have the ranks, or you don't. I've already run across this a few times, so I would expect that you'll be running up against this kind of thing a lot.
THERE MAY BE NO BOBBLEHEADS. I'm not yet sure if this is true, but it would make me sad if it were.
Also: When you see signs that say "WARNING: DEATHCLAWS AHEAD", you should listen.

Really? 'Cause I found one, and I didn't really get anything. Unless I need to actively use it, which I haven't.

Got my special edition just there now. Comes with Caravan Cards, Lucky 38 Platinum Chip, Making of DVD, Lucky 7 Chips, and a Hard cover Graphic Novel. Not to bad for the price. Traded in MoH for it. Reasons why are on the MoH thread.

Sounds cool. Do you get any in-game goodies?
Also, it turns out that instead of getting upgrades through bobble heads, you buy them from a doctor in New Vegas, which you need 2000 caps to enter (its just a credit check, so you don't actually pay anything).
Quote :
The New Vegas Medical Clinic is the hospital of New Vegas run by Usanagi. You can get injections there that increase your skills, add other special stuff, and you can also get healed there. The doctor there offers medical implants that increase your SPECIAL each for 4000 caps, she also offers a damage threshold upgrade and a health regeneration implant costing 10,000 caps and 12,000 caps, respectively. You may only take each implant once.
It's located east of Crimson Caravan, somewhat southwest of the Mole Rat Farm. Has an average locked door when encountered before reaching boulder town.

If you liked Fallout 3, you'll like this.
When you get to Primm, make sure you throughly pick apart the casino were the deputy is being held by the Powder Gangers. There are a LOT of goodies on the second and third floors, and you can easily haul away at least a couple hundred caps worth of loot and weapons.

I find this a lot harder than fo3. I have already died more than I ever did then. I mean, there is NOTHING that I have found
Spoiler:
I've just passed the first NCR Ranger missions and met the Legion at Nipon
that lets me effectively take on Giant Radscorpions and other wasteland mutants. Maybe im spoiled as i happened across some great weapons early on in FO3.
Also, ran across this glitch:
Spoiler:
When i was heading up the hill to the Mojave outpost to the south, some asshat came out shooting at me. I took him down and checked him and apparently he was some important character, and i got a quest failed memo. that happened a few times in FO3 and it irritates me that it's happening again here.
