| So Dark Souls is essentially a prison sim then, where you drop the soap stone and tell your friend to pick it up. |

| Is it necessary to play Demon's Souls before this? It look s hella nice, but I'm a bit scared by the comments saying it is a really hard game. What do you guys think? |

Hehe, thanks! == Reo, No, there is no need to play Demon's Souls first, but worth it, as it is amazing. They are not direct sequels. Dark Souls is a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls. A lot of the same ideas, and similar game play, but no direct link. It is hard, but not impossible. You will die, but you learn, grow, adapt, and finally conquer, which is part of the fun. If an area is to hard, you move else where... find an area you can survive in. The trick is realizing, it's just a death, or just some souls. You can always get more, or try again. You have myself, and Cobalt to bounce questions and ideas off of (Heck, I bug Cobalt... a lot! lol) |

| Thanks guys, I guess that means I oughta play Demon's first then. I like to get the references when I'm playing a sequel Besides, once I'm done with that, hopefully this game has become a bit cheaper. Success! |

| Again the only real similarities is the play style. No real ties between them, but still a great game.... BTW: They never end... well until you reach soul level 712 haha! I look forward to hearing what you think of Demon's Souls/Dark Souls, and again, any questions, don't be affraid to ask. === So, I finally rang the first bell, headed down to the residences... Freed... You know who, and kept moving. Then I got ambushed and owned by about 6 ninjas! haha. I went back to get my souls and humanity I dropped, moving slower this time... They come out of no where! I lost my souls and humanity haha! Oh well, was only about 6k souls, and 2 humanity - all part of the fun. What I really want to do now is work my way to the sewers, and get my pyromancy trainer! I would really like more then just fireball. === The drake sword is great, I'm killing so fast, the bell tower garoyles died very fast === I met the blacksmith, there was a tunnel not to far from him with appeared to be a lightning shooting black dragon. I ran! haha === I may have met the familiar guy... I know I met a guy I don't trust... all in "gold"? I don't want to say to much with our ruining the game for others. I wonder if we should start a Dark Souls -Will contain Spoilers- thread? === Anyway, there is a brief, my exploits so far, with out giving to much detail, and ruining the game for others post. |

| No, that guy's not the familiar guy, but he does do something familiar... Something unpleasant, but not irreversible. The familiar guy is in the Catacombs. Make sure to tell him "No" when he asks you something. That thing you saw is a Titanite Demon. He doesn't respawn once killed, and always drops Demon Titanite. I hate these things. Their damage is too high, their attack range is too wide, and their ranged attack (the lightning) is also damaging. However, they can be beaten. I got that guy and went into the forest beyond, though I could also have just ignored him. Lots of fun stuff in that forest, but the Depths is where you're supposed to go next, so you're heading in the right direction. Enjoy that demon in the phonebooth. *snickers* You'll know what I mean. Search the doors those ninjas came out of. Some stuff is in some of them. That guy you freed sells a ring for 15K that boosts sorcery. But it ALSO boosts pyromancy. When you find that trainer you're looking for, make sure not to hit him on accident. Rolling is key. A couple things I've learned. Firstly, I don't think a lightning longbow was really worth it. Other lightning weapons would be fine, and for the level everyone is now, they do a ton of damage without relying on stats. Second, fighting the red dragon. Perhaps in revenge for the way you sniped the red and blue ones in the first game, this dragon cannot by shot to death, at least not by me. When his health gets between half and a quarter he will heal back to at least 3/4. My Lightning Longbow +5 was not enough to out damage his healing. I don't know if you could with a bow that scales with stats and a high Dex character, but lightning isn't the way to go on this. To beat him I got his health near half with that bow (sniping the tail too, as it denies him a sweep attack later) and then had to take the fight to the bridge. I ran back up the stairs and shot him one last time, then made for the opposite corner to escape his flame attacks (bring your most fire resistant gear). He landed and walked forward and I took a swing at his feet. What I should have done was run under him, since that makes him charge by you leaving a flame trail. Only my Black Knight shield +5 saved me as it blocks 95% of fire damage. I ended up relying on that. What I did was get him into a lock of doing a flame blast that hits directly downward by attacking his feet and then running a short distance back in front of him. Still got hit, but my shield (and Flame Stoneplate Ring) could handle it. Attack the feet, repeat. I was actually a little let down to learn that he only drops 10,000 souls, but then I remembered the Drake Sword. I was still expecting a dragon scale though. Stay in Human form whenever possible. Yeah, it opens you up to invasions, but you'll also be able to encounter NPC black phantoms. Once beaten, these often become NPCs you can summon for a boss fight. Plus they always drop unique gear.

| I already get the "I know what you are going to do" vibe from that guy. From what you say to I bet he is the... - Spoiler:
assassin?
...but he did give me a pretty medallion. lol I will kill that titanite demon eventually, just not right now. Phone booth demon? That sounds like something straight out of Doctor Who lol Once I kill those ninjas, I will check every room. That's one think I know about this game, check every square inch. (Curse those ninjas!) Good to know about that ring, thanks. Do you know if the pyrmancy trainer sells a similar one? I always roll to destroy barrels and such, as it is faster usually, and if the object is low, missable. Thanks for the heads up about "my" trainer though. Any recommendations on the next spell I should learn? I will be a while, but I will kill that dragon. I am kind of glad you can just pelt him with arrows for a kill this time around. Epic dragon fights are always great. My fire resistance is pretty high currently, but I will make sure to swap out when the time comes. The dragon scale is a gift from hawk girl. Any idea what the Drake Sword + 1 does? Does it add much more then damage? IE magic affects, etc. (I do know that the sword does have the special attack, that does way to much damage to the condition, but is affective). Having trouble staying human. lol I don't find much humanity to revert either, but I try to when I can, if only to kindle fires. === Neo, I'm glad you are liking it so far, it is great. The sword is a great beginner, actually pretty amazing, beginner weapon. What class did you start with? I had to pump 4 points in to strength just to use it. Did the Taurus Demon drop anything for you? |

| Pyro trainer just sells spells, no equipment, I believe. Combustion is great for close range combat. Just mind the short charge up. Fire Orb is an improvement over Fireball. Flash Sweat is useful later on. Make sure to buy Iron Flesh from him as he is the one and only source of that spell, and certain events can happen later that make him unavailable to buy from (he's not the only vendor though, so don't worry). I'm stuck waiting until NG+ for my pyromancy trophy because of that.
IIRC, each upgrade for the Drake Sword adds 20 points to damage, capping at 300 at +5. However, there are better dragon weapons later to spend your scales on. They can be found lying around here or there, and most Dragon type enemies drop them. Unsure if the drakes do as well, so there may actually be a limited supply of the things in the story mode. Careful how you use them. Oh, and they're also used to level up in the Path of the Dragon covenant. You can challenge other members of that to fights, where the winner gets a dragon scale (though the loser doesn't lose one).
Well, Humanity drops from rats pretty commonly. You're also nearing a vendor that can sell it for 5,000. But the better way to get it is to drop your summon sign. Whenever you help anyone clear a boss, you get one Humanity. And the awesome sauce that is playing with people online.
And remember, dying in phantom form costs you nothing! Not Humanity, not souls. Whenever you have trouble with an area or boss, or just want some extra souls yourself, drop that sign. People are as willing to help you as you are to help them. |

| Welcome to the forums. Glad to see you're enjoying the game. If you have any questions about either the forum or the game, then don't be afraid to ask. One thing I like about the game is that I haven't really been put in a position where I really needed to grind for much. What grinding I have done has been voluntary. Just going for souls to buy spells and such with. And since I'm helping others to do it, it doesn't feel like wasted time. Big plus in my book. |

| Alrighty. Think I'm about to finish this off...and start on the even harder New Game Plus. I'm waiting to put up my review until a patch comes out. It's supposed to help correct a couple minor problems and balance the multiplayer a bit. Let's see here... - Quote :
- Fixes to certain spells and effects:
- Magic Shield, Strong Magic Shield - Tranquil Walk of Peace - Ring of Fog, etc. Unlimited uses of magic and items Regular weapons rebalanced against reinforced weapons Adjustments to the player matching conditions Loading problems when switching between maps [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |
