On one hand, I want to be stupidly excited for this. On the other....I don't know if they've done enough to warrant a buy from me.

The big 2 for me out of this series is FF 4 and FF 6. Both IMO should have updated remakes. Not necessarily like the FF 7 remake, but bigtime updates. And I don't feel like this is going to be it. Now, I could be wrong....but after what I saw the other night, I don't know.

I was watching a streamer play the FF 1 Pixel remaster - there were some cool add ons - the ability to walk diagonally, a mini map, slight menu upgrades and animation buffs. The biggest and best upgrade to me was the Music. Uematsu was brought in and oversaw the remastering of his music for these games and the FF 1 soundtrack (well the tracks that I heard) were fantastic!

Of course the game is more snappy with little to no delay between menu to map, map to battle etc. Navigating the menu is more of an update to how it worked in the later SNES Final Fantasies. And therein lies my concern - I'm confident that fans of FF 1 - 3 will be subject to some AMAZING upgrades. FF 1 looked a bit better and sounded amazing and looked like it played really well with its updates.

Because FF 1 - 3 were released on an 8 bit system, they had lots of room to grow. I watched FF 1 the other night with an upgrade to sprites and characters etc that looked like the SNES era of games. But if that's the upgrade that the first 3 games got and thats the ceiling....how much room do Final Fantasy 4 - 6 have to grow? I'm not thinking very much. The music sure. But what else? Mini map? Walking diagonal? Slight performance improvements? That's not a selling tag to me. FF 4 and 6 DESERVE WAAAAYYY much better than that. Definitely FF 6 since FF 4 has been redone a million times (and I've bought almost each one.... ) - I want this to be awesome.....but I'm not sure if it can or will be.

Currently its on PC only but I think I heard that this was going to Mobile as well. I might consider playing it on PC, but NEVER Mobile   - I would prefer console and if the improvements are minor, then I may still get it there if it releases on console. But if I'm going to get it on PC, it would have to be a serious improvement / update. I'm not a PC gamer....my system isn't made for that and even though the specs for the games probably aren't insane....I hate the thought of having to deal with that stuff.

So, anyone planning on getting any of these or checking it out? I'm on the fence....

EDIT - just checked out this video with side by side....if the rest of the "Pixel Remaster" series is similar to how the FF 1 release is, this is NOT a remaster. The PS1 / PSP versions look MUCH better than the PC. Maybe the menu looks nicer....but yikes....if Music and Menus are the only actual improvements....I'm really disappointed at this....

Heh.....too bad the only option for that is Emu....that I'm aware of anyway.

Oh they discontinued the handhelds altogether?

Yeah. PSP has been discontinued for awhile and the Vita a year or so back. I'll never be able to play that Vita uncharted game....
