Hopefully they fix the broken leveling and stats in Oblivion.

God, I hope so. If not, someone at Bethesda will be getting strangled.

Beat me to it. Just posted the same, and didn't see this thread.

Duplicate thread gone!

Very excited. Hoping they go more towards Morrowind than Oblivion this time. Having a named (or rather Titled, I suppose) character is a start. Admit it, The Nerevarine was awesome. Random Guy In Prison, not so much. Laughing

I had the thread up and posted before the trailer at the VGA's finished. You had no chance of beating me. Very Happy= :D

I don't care whether Skyrim is more like Oblivion or Morrowind. More Elder Scrolls is always a good thing.

Apparently they're going to be using a new game engine for this one.
Source.

Bethesda Softworks community manager Nick Breckon has confirmed that the next Elder Scrolls game, Skyrim, will use an all new engine. This is contrary to a recent rumour that Bethesda’s next game would still use the Gamebryo engine that powered The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3.

The controversy around Gamebryo can be summarised as: good at trees, crap at faces. It made Oblivion’s landscapes gorgeous, but led to some ugly people and odd behaviour. The way it transitioned between low and high detail scenery as you moved through the world also caused some blurry textures and suddenly appearing objects on some machines.

Since Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax now owns id Software, the second most popular theory was that Skyrim might use id Tech 5, the engine developed for their next game Rage. Apparently not – “all new” suggests this is one developed specifically for Skyrim, or at least not seen in other games yet.

I bought oblivion like at the beginning of the year and I just wanna say... HOW DO YOU FIND THE TIME TO PLAY SOMETHING THIS MONSTROUS!!!
Seriously, the elder scrolls series are huge and ive finished about 0.1% of oblivion.
So this game will not be on my radar for a very long while Smile

I enjoyed Oblivion as much as I enjoyed DragonAge. Both different, but I could get completely lost in both worlds, do every little quest I could, discover as much areas as I could and talk to every single person I could. It take ages, yep. But I like the idea of being completely wrapped in this other reality of ancient worlds. It just feels so beautiful, full of magic, morals and justice. Idk. I love this kind of games. I will be buying it on release date, for sure.

Oblivion is a good game. What it lacks in a a balanced stat system, it makes up for in cool storylines and a massive exploration element.

I agree. My only major complaints for the game were the stat building (coupled with a personal min-maxing tendency) making me carefully manage what I leveled up, the scaling levels of enemies (no goblins in Daedric Full Plate Evil or Very Mad), and the weakness of the main story as compared with all the little side stories. I personally enjoyed the Fighter's and Mage's Guilds' quests far more than the central story. That just made me feel line a bystander.

I actually preferred the Thieves' Guild questline the most out of all of them - keep in mind, though, I haven't done the Dark Brotherhood's quests yet.

Yeah, that one's pretty good. And there is a way to get into it without killing random people too. Do the Arena quests and finish the optional one for the orc champion, The Gray Prince (I think that's his name) before you fight him in the arena. For whatever reason, this triggers the Dark Brotherhood visit. Finishing up the Thieves Guild questline (I agree, another good one) gives you a great way to get through those quests with your reputation intact. Also, completing the pilgrimage for the Knights of the Nine quest completely removes your Infamy rating.

The pilgrimage part was a pain in the ass. I hope theres nothing like it in Skyrim.

New engine = win as long as it isn't the Super Glitch Engine V 2.0

Well, everyone who's been voting for Skyrim since Oblivion came out will be happy. I'm not quite sure how it will be a direct sequel but I guess we see how it goes.
