i really hope this ones story is as awesome as FoM's story, i loved the narration style of FoM. R2's story wasnt that great
i dont get why they tried to develop hale as a character in 2 if they just went and killed him off. was there supposed to be some sort of emotional response from it? if they kept the narration and basically kept hale as the guy you just so happen to be, it probably would have worked better IMO.
also, the trailer looks like it had some new guns.. or they were showing off that you could customize the rossmore? that shotgun definitely made the chimera light on fire after he shot it at 1:07. and was that a carbine at 1:05?
EDIT: coming from insomniac twitter
"Did you guys see the Upgraded Rossmore light that Longlegs on fire and cause the blast root to blow?" i guess that means i was right about the first question lol
also
"Sledgehammer... CONFIRMED. If Ratchet has a wrench, Capelli can have a sledgehammer"
lol so i was right about being able to use that too. i wonder how thats going to work out?

I just can't wait to play on a game that had dedicated servers again. This means international parties without the connection frustration. (^_-)b I really look forward to playing with everyone again.
Please be more multiplayer RFoM than R2! *crosses fingers*

Trailer analysis...
Possible Arena mode? I'm guessing there will be a Ratchet/wrench skin if there is.

That shotty attack reminded me slightly of the arc charger - how when you hit one you can damage those around the main target etc. Very nice touch, mhmm.

Put $10 into this preorder too a few days ago. Still a lot more to pay off, but in the end when all of us are pwning faces together online next year, it will be worth it!

I wish I had anything nice to say about this game or its developer. But since I dont I will say nothing.
However I will say a game with out online co op is definitely a NON purchase for me these days.
Theres other things out there offering way more than this.

i dont get why they pulled online co-op out. that was probably the best part of R2. probably the most popular too...

I should re phrase.
A co op thats not just the campaign.
The great thing about R2 and even Mw2 and now Black Ops...(and oh, just about every other game being made these days) is the co ops along side the normal online MP. I play mp until it pisses me off, and then i switch to co op. Play that until it too pisses me off and am ready again for MP. And I can rotate that as much as I want in one day... getting much more time into and out of a game and my 60 dollars. Now, there's no doubt that the resistance online mp is always bad ass. But at this point its such a mosh pit of bs from all sides that while even though the potential for it to be awesome is high....speaking just for me now, I dont know if its going to be enough anymore to hold me over for as long as its predecessors. These weapons alone are almost enough to turn me off from the beginning, and Ill spare you all my wheel over class rant. Yeah, lets go backwards in game developing.
The main campaign I couldnt even care about at this point. The story is too all over the place now and Ive posted my thoughts about it in the past.
Now on top of all of this, is Insomniacs in ability to step outside their own box. Its bad enough that almost every enemy and weapon in the resistance universe is just a Ratchet and Clank rip off with a big boy twist, and now there is rumors about the same ol battle arenas? Please. PLEASE give me something new and stop insulting my intelligence.
And for the cherry on top of this cake of failure....zero support for the games post launch Nothing about any of this makes R3 a good spending decision from my pocket book.
I guess thats the best way to put it

How do you feel they're going backwards in game development? Because they aren't including an online coop?
I can understand the frustration for not having that mode. But keep in mind, there was a HUGE outcry when R2 didnt have side by side coop before.
I dont know what limitations there are to have both online and offline coop.....but I don't feel they're going backwards.
But this is coming from a guy who buys games for their single player campaigns. I always have and always will consider a good online option as a cherry on top. But it will never make or break a game for me. Yes it can add additional value down the line, but every game I buy, I buy because I want to continue with the story or get into the story.
I guess it comes down to what I value and what you value which is why I don't feel bad about this. Either way, I'm loving what I'm seeing so far. And even though Nathan Hale isn't around.....I'm planning on a day 1 purchase. THough I am praying and hoping somehow they include Hale or mention him regularly as well as James Greyson. You can't have a solid awesome PSP game and create a great badass character and not use him moving forward.

Well, keep in mind that the psp title wasnt Insomniacs. I dont see why they would mention any of it in R3.
Going back to the weapon wheel is retro imo. Its a feature lots of games had like 10 years ago. I'm sure some will say it makes insom stand out to keep a dinosaur like that, but I just think its silly.
My main complaint all around is the utter lack of innovation that R2 brought. Changing the storys characters and weapons only gives the appearance of something new. This is a shinier FoM and nothing more.

To be honest I have no idea why so many people on these forums like the coop so much. I thought it was absolutely appalling, it was just, who could hold down the R1 button the longest and get the lucky last shot on to an enemy. There really wasn't much more to it. Although I have admit I LOVED the orbing glitch which they patched out.
It was fun the first time through but once you knew what was coming next, where the enemies were gong to spawn etc it just so sooo dull I hated it. I don't have any qualms with getting rid of it in my opinion. Whereas I love the new implementation of being able to do the story mission with a buddy. I personally get very bored with stories and single player I would much rather be able to play along with someone and talk while doing it and share the experience rather than sit the by myself locked up in my own little single player world.
This didn't used to be the case, I used to diligently play the campaign before making any moves on the multiplayer. But I think that since I have bought a mic and have found a bunch of very fun and very skilled players to play with online I prefer the competitive side of games much more. I find it much more rewarding and more challenging. So unlike you Raistlin I now buy games for the online, if it has a bad online side of it then I usually don't buy it. If it has a good single player like Uncharted 2 then that's just a bonus in my eyes.
I also don't see the problem in bringing back the weapon wheel, like you say it is a bit old fashioned and no one uses that way of weapon selecting any more, but that's a good thing right? It makes R3 stand out and bring something different which we haven't seen since the good ol' days of R1. To me it seems like the majority of game developers are trying to make their own version of the Call Of Duty franchise. So to bring something which may not be necessarily new but new to the current population of players is a good thing in my eyes.
So I am all for the decisions which Insomniac have made.

so being able to carry less weapons makes it outdated?
weapon wheel allows for more strategic combat, with certain weapons being much better in certain scenarios.
While limiting the amount of weapons allows you to make each weapon significantly more powerful, and useful in more situations

Like Raist said...its just preference. I dont like the wheel. And yes, I feel its a dated concept. This is where I get to exercise my right as a consumer and not buy something.
And to follow up with flight...co op could have been so much more...if they supported their game and released new maps. Black Ops has been out for just a couple months, and the talks of the new zombies maps is already out there.
Its not about JUST the wheel. Or JUST the lack of co op. Its a package that looks pretty light compared to what other games are offering these days. And from my view, the guy who can only afford to buy one or two games a year...theres just better options.

I'm a big fan of the wagon wheel. I thought it brought a unique element to RFOM. All these shooters just keep borrowing from one another until all that is left is the same game but with different titles. We don't need Resistance to play like COD or Halo. It needs to be the alternative.
I know a lot of people that will go back to Resistance if they do this right. The wagon wheel and RFOM style vents would be a step in that direction. I'm pulling for the game because I would love to return to it.

I wasn't disagreeing with raist. I was arguing that its not dated, its just a different style.
as for the package. We don't even have all that much detail on what all is included. They've made a few comments about some features, but its mostly been insomniac commenting or hinting on some features, typically through twitter. there hasn't been any hands on, or even eyes on with the press at all. The game is still in its early announcement stage.

True. We dont have a list of whats included. But we do have a list of what isnt.
I wish it werent so, but Im just not seeing much. The hardcore fan base wanted a new version of FoM and thats all I see so far. And for what ever reason, thats all Insom decided to cater to. Its just my belief and statements but I still think thats a minority. R2 brought so many new people to the franchise that just may not have showed up otherwise. I have FoM. I dont want to buy another fom. I was hoping for something new is all. And I dont see anything new.

For me the weapon wheel makes the campaign more fun. As long as it's in the campaign mode I'm less bothered if they use a COD-style class system for online, but what I REALLY hope is that you at least choose your grenade if you can't have all three -- I hated the R2 frags so much I ended up not using whole weapon classes simply because they came with frags. Then again, all three of the grenades in R2 were broken anyway.
I didn't really play R2 co-op. The thing I loved about FoM's co-op was that I could play through the story with my eldest kid. We shared a lot of fun doing that. Online co-op simply wasn't as fun.
But then R2 all round wasn't as fun for me. What was interesting whatching the R2 retrospectives on the most recent FMSs was that IG were most proud of the *technical* achievements (e.g. 300 foot monster, water, etc) rather than the gameplay achievements (of which there were precious few, IMO). As long as they focus on gameplay rather than patting themselves on the back for having a 300 ft monster that no other game has ever had (perhaps there was a reason no other game ever had one?) then I'll be happier.
I must say though, I am not sure whether this is a pre-order or a wait-and-see-what-the-others say game for me. If we get in on the beta then that will be a big help in the decision process.

Deep down I know you are right. But the wheel hints at weapon spawns, and thats just something that I have little interest in seeing return to the MP. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose in how they handle it all.
lolz at eatty and the 300 ft monster thing. Its true what you say. My biggest fear though is that R3 will be nothing more than patting themselves on the back for trying to redeem themselves in the eyes of this "hardcore" fan base for what they did with R2, whether they actually do or not. And if that really is the only driving force behind R3...well.....thats not A list developers there. If they manage to take those tried and true things from FoM and still have NEW elements to add to it....I will eat all these words. erm....sorry for the unintended pun there eatty. But from what Im seeing so far, they decided to ditch the COD hybrid, and go the route of Halo instead.
The lingering doubt on ever buying this game for me comes in unpatched glitches and exploits. Even if R3 was all the things I hope it would be, it would mean nothing at all if every exploit and glitch is left unfixed and taped together with nothing but a long list of excuses. Not A list developer either.
