Can't wait for U3 to come out. And I can't wait for the beta... I just wish the beta was two weeks long for everyone (people who didn't pre-order or have PSN+) that way we'll have more time to test those new customisable features!!

Well, now I know for sure I won't be picking up Uncharted 3. Creepy Crawler? Really? My poor Uncharted.

The only thing I'm really curious about, at this point, is how largely the radar is going to change the game up. It's a pretty bizzare change, coming from Uncharted 2, and I'm not sure I agree with that, on top of everything else I hate about what I hear, so far. Good to know that I'm not the only one who disagrees with the addition of the mini-map/radar system. Or...at least the implied addition of one.

I'm kinda nervous about it myself, but I love Uncharted enough that I'm still gonna try the game out. I am worried about the power plays *cough*curse*cough* and stupid kickback crap they added in. Why would you give supernatural powers like that to the players? It's gonna become overused once you get 5 man parties. Its gonna be just like the whole deal of SA/DTI with FF in U2.

I am sorely tempted to get the Collector's Edition. It would be a done deal if it came with all the in-game pre-order bonuses, like inFAMOUS 2's did. But as it stands, considering there aren't in-game bonuses... this is gonna be a tough choice. I'm thinking either GameStop or Best Buy?

I have never been more excited to play a game now that I've seen this.

It looks like they reduced bullet damage! Maybe it will be similar to 1.04 damage?!

You're breaking my heart, Endlo. Sad

At this point I just really hope "Nate's Theme" is still the music that will accompany the main menu.

Suitably remixed for an Arabian feel, of course.

oh I think they will draw a lot from Arabian music for this game's soundtrack, I can hear a lot of Asian, particularly Chinese, elements in the U2 soundtrack, if the soundtrack is Arabian influenced I will want to get it 10x more than I do already, love some nice Arabian elements in music

Nice to hear form you Endlo!

I am completely against the powerplays. This is a stupid move and makes me not want to buy the game. I'm not going to sit here and say that I'm a beast that will make powerplays happen all the time but......what can I say? I know we'll all roll in a party and we"ll wreck 95% of the lobbies we come across. It's inevitable. If those casual gamers suck that's their problem not ours! I hate the idea of being blinded or being forced to have half health. It should be an option (it occurs to me now that this just might be an option and I didn't realize that). I can understand why ND wants to put it in their game. To keep the casual players from feeling too beaten but it just crushes all the competitive balance and level playing field that MOST devs strive to attain.

PostSubject: Re: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception   Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Page 32 EmptySat Jun 04, 2011 3:27 am

That's about where I stand on the issue, myself. I mean, it's no secret that I'm a big competitive jerk, so that's how I have to evaluate things, and look at them. There's a lot here, that I don't like, from that objective standpoint.

I mean, I'm sure that Uncharted 3 is going to be a great game. Uncharted and Uncharted 2 were both great games, from a single-player perspective, and Uncharted 2, for a long time, also managed to deliver on the online multiplayer front. Uncharted 2 made me really wary though, of what Naughty Dog does, and what their policies are, generally speaking. Given how that all played out, I'm not sure that I'm willing to plunk down the cash to get another experience that will be handled in the same vague and degenerating way.

I disagree with power-plays, kickbacks, the mini-map, and half of what I've read, so far. I understand that they want to shift the focus a little bit, and they want to include perhaps a more casual playerbase, and that's also why they're proposing some game-modes that might appeal to more die-hard competitive players, but it just doesn't feel like enough.

I shouldn't be punished for playing in a competitive fashion, and aligning myself with other like-minded competitive players. That's where the Power-Plays feel like a mistake, to me. I understand that they want to open up the game, and make it feel more openly approachable, and that's awesome. I just think that this might have been the wrong way to go about it.
Will they be absolute game-changers and let the losing team steal victory? Sometimes. Most of the time, I'm not sure it'll matter, but it's still a ridiculous thing to include, and to subject the players to. Being rewarded for overcoming your "handicap" with more cash seems pretty pointless. Most players won't care, and for those who do, they handled that pretty nicely last go-round, with Badges of Honor. Badges also had the self-improvement aspect, and didn't feel like a punishment for doing well, and were instead a conscious choice, for any number of reasons, for you to handicap yourself.

I understand that the game has to evolve, it just seems...silly, to me, in so many ways. These don't really feel like improvements, rather just...meshed together concepts that they hope appeals to those looking for the game to have moved forward. Maybe I'm just too attached to what Uncharted 2 used to be, and would rather see 1.03 sold to me again, with a new campaign to ignore.

PostSubject: Re: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception   Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Page 32 EmptySat Jun 04, 2011 4:21 am

I am completely with Endlo-, I can understand what the developers are doing, opening up the game and appealing to the more casual audience, the more gamers the merrier in my eyes.

First of all though, do we know for sure that these kick back/power plays are they forced upon the winning team or is it like a badge of honour like in Uncharted where you had the option to use it if you wished?

Because I thought that they had it perfect in Uncharted 2 with the badges of honour, although I never actually got the oppertunity to use them myself there was the whole risk-reward attatached to it, if you wanted to level up through those insane amount required your only option was to play every breathing second or use a badge of honour. Assuming that the higher a level the more skill the player has (something which I don't believe at all but for arguements sake) then this should level the playing field if they decide to use it and make it fairer. It was good because the user had the option to use it, some cared more about kd than level, some purely level orientated, some liked the challenege. It suited each person and how they wanted to play the game.

Just because you are wrecking the enemy team doesn't mean that you deserve to be punished. I mean literally that as a clan we never lost a match when we played together and we have videos of us beating some of the supposed best players in the game and some of the guys who only ever played in a party with us had the highest win loss ratios that I ever saw, just because we are able to do this doesn't mean that we should be forced to a disadvantage and extar unnecessary deaths. Especially if they have too much of an influence and could cause a loss because you end up getting pummeled by RPGs that the enemy team is gifted with.

If there is the option to use them or not then I'm not too bothered about the inclusion of them because I personally never really cared about leveling up and loved the custom matches much more than killing randoms. But if it's a forced everytime you are beating the other team by 20+ kills then that is super lame especially as at the moment it seems like they give a very powerful advaantage to the losing team. Although I am going to have to wait obviously at least for the beta to see how it actually plays out but on paper it doesn't sound like the way to go.

I think naughty Dog should have/make a " Barebones " style playlist with no powerplays etc . I am agreeing with you guys on this topic also BTW Smile .

It won't matter if ND makes a "barebones" type playlist. I know this is my conceited nihilist asshole coming out but just listen to me. Look a black ops (I know I know). TDM is easily the most played game mode. U2. TDM easily the most played game mode. The average, casual (keyword average, casual) gamer won't bother to look at the other game modes. They'll play for about 45 minutes a night and when they do they want to have fun period. If they know they aren't the greatest they are obviously going to choose the standard playlist so if they run into a full party well at least they get to have fun with some RPGs (which do environmental damage now Excited ) Just trust me when I say that "no powerplays" playlist will be full of high level people that are very competitive.

But that's a good thing, it creates a playlist that should be more competitive like the ranked playlist tried to do. I find matches where I know that I am playing skillful players much more interesting than ones where you beat up on the casual gamers even if it does mean only getting like a 2kd compared to dying once or twice against the casual gamers.

I find these games much more fun and interesting and is why when I played Uncharted 2 I played mainly unranked customs against and with gb teams. They were so much more fun and intense than playing against scrubs and dying like 2 or three times a match, sure your stats and kd like it but I don't find it nearly as satisfying.

So if they do create a no powerplays playlist I'm all for it, the only problem would be having enough of a player base to support it.

Again though, do we actually know, for a fact that these power plays are forced upon the winning team every single match or is it a choice thing like the badges of honour?
