With the DM's in the multiplayer I generally will move a bit from my start but wait for others to get into the open area so by that time they will be engaged with each other and I can come in and at least steal a kill or two before getting blindsided.

I LOVE the winter blast shotty combo. Soooooo good Smile

I've taken to waiting a few extra seconds to spawn so that I can pick off the winner in the spawn killing. Cheap, and there's no guarantee I'll even spawn next to others, but a few kills has been the difference between a 500 Adam payout and a 900+.
Got up to Rank 20 last night. A little digging tells me that to get to Rank 40 I'll need a total of 97,000 Adam. I've got somewhere in the 20,000s. A ways to go.

I'm gonna play around with the geyser trap pretty soon too. I think it'll be fun. I confess, it's even amusing to me when I get hit by one. Just walking along and suddenly POP! I'm ten feet in the air. lol Keeps things interesting.

Adam grab. This is a fun match type. Think King of the Kill, but you carry the hill around with you, and when you die you drop it so someone else can get it. First person to hold it for a total of 3 minutes wins. Oh, and just like in Capture the Sister mode, you can only use plasmids, not weapons while carrying.
Here's the thing though. Every game of it I get has a team of hackers in it. By which I mean two players that sit behind a turret and take turns hacking it for exp. They attack no one, save indirectly from people running in front of the turret. They don't interfere with anyone else playing the game. The points they get don't affect the score, as that's totally time based. They just sit and grind out about 1,000 exp per match (I asked one out of curiosity). It's certainly not the way the game's meant to be played, but I find myself leaving them alone for the most part, aside from fighting to grab the hill and end the game fast as I can. Since it's nonagressive (unlike nuke boosting), and doesn't deny anyone deserved points (It's FFA style, but again this teaming up doesn't effect the score) it doesn't get me riled as much. They're just...parasites. Fitting.
I debated constantly over whether or not to mess with them. Until I found a worse variation. This was a three man team, two hackers and a high level retriever. The two would sit and hack, while the other one went after the LS. He'd then drop it behind the turret and corner c.amp with help, trying to make the game last a full 15 minutes to give the hackers more time.
Now you're interfering.
Evil or Very Mad
So I will too.
Twisted Evil
A constant barrage of Electrobolts sure makes it tough to hack, with the added bonus of luring our retriever out. Then the 1-2 punch gets me a kill and the LS. And the level's turrets can only take so much damage. Pity.
Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
Of course, with their easy exp gone they took to hunting me. Or trying to. Aero Dash, ftw. Their builds were focused on hacking, so if you know where all the eve hypos are and dash to them efficiently, they're out of luck. Laughing

Level 29 currently. Just 11 more to go, but I'm really only halfway done exp-wise.
Maybe I'll just devote my time to hacker hunting for a while. Smile

Playing as a Big Daddy is fun, to be sure, and can certainly net you a number of kills while it lasts. But because of the infrequent access to it, as well as the permanent damage, it can't be counted on. However, it does almost always make an impact in the final score.

Fun fact: Got a triple kill with one proximity mine throw last night. Completed about three different Trials for that one, and finished with 1,500+ Adam. Very Happy= :D Like I said, it can make an impact if properly handled. So far, my rule #1 is "Take the High Ground". Particularly effective in the Home for the Poor, and Mercury Suites levels.

I'll likely be on tonight again. Only 6 or 7 more levels to go, of which I expect to grind a couple more tonight. Be glad to party up, if I can figure out how it works. Embarassed I only really see the Invite to game option. Thinking Maybe you have to be outside the matchmaker to make it work.

BioShock 2 - Page 3 Empty
PostSubject: Re: BioShock 2   BioShock 2 - Page 3 EmptyFri May 21, 2010 3:20 am

Double Post.
Why?
Because I care, darn it.

One level left to go. Hit 39 earlier this evening before going to play some U2 with End. It's more expensive than the other level by almost twice coming in at 7,000 Adam to achieve, whereas the others since 20 have cost about 3,000-4,000 Adam.
I don't really have much interest in buying the DLC to get up to level 50, though I hear the maps are nice. That's one thing I can say about this game. The maps are all really good. Well designed with very, very few places to really camp. Most every place has multiple entrances and exits meaning anyone trying to set traps all around would likely run out of Eve too soon to really defend a place. You can try working with turrets, but there are ways behind those too, or they can be frozen/shocked.

I've found a...well, not a replacement so much as an alternative...to Winter Blast. Telekinesis. Stun effect if you can hit with it. Little more difficult to aim, but when you do hit with it it's stun is superior to Winter Blast's freeze effect. One, they can't shoot back for a second (which is all it takes) and two, this leaves a body for you to research. Still, can't compete with WB's utility though. Just has too many uses.

Three.

That's okay, Raist. To be perfectly honest, I doubt I'll play the multiplayer once I finish off that last level. This aspect of the game isn't very popular and it can take a long while to find a game in any given type. It has only taken me about 12 hours to get this far though. Imma finish this last level, and then do my No Vitachambers run through campaign.

Yeah, I got all the offline trophies in one sitting, so that's sorted.

I even got the Mother Goose trophy for capturing the sister at first time of asking. I read somewhere it was easier to get this when you unlock the Houdini trophy at lvl 16. So I spliced up Houdini and Aero Dash. Waited until everyone was fighting. Went in invisible, and while everyone was busy, ran for the vent with Aero Dash. I've never played Capture the Sister since.

Now just lvls 30 and 40 stand between me and plat glory.

It's amazing. I can come up with great ways of beating the game, but go online and it's facepalm2

Go figure.

*EDIT* I didn't actually get the trophies in one sitting. That would have been painful on the old buns. I meant I got them in one playthrough. Just to prevent any confusion. confused

Ah. Had me scared there, K. lol
You did the game on hard with no vitachambers first time around? Shocked Bravo, bud. You haz much patience. I got that done for Bioshock, but not B2. Offline I have everything but the no Vitas. I didn't have the patience for the kick to title screen extra long reload. (Why did they take out the reload option from the first game? Sad ) Gonna go back and get it on a lower difficulty.
I bow to your awesomeness, K.
:atyourfeet:
Yeah, I didn't like the Capture the Sister mode myself either. I've caught exactly one. lol Didn't like the way they split the round up.
Adam Grab, however, is pretty win...when you can find a game on it.

If you need company or pointers grinding out those last levels, then hit me up. Smile

Raistlin, I'm sure you have the skill and patience. What I bet you don't have is the time!

Got my level 40 today! Woot! Was pretty awesome how my last match went too.
Froze and TK'd my way into the lead in a Neptune's Bounty FFA. Got a BD Takedown near the start. Even got a couple Vender kills, lol. Near the end I hacked the RPG turret just before another BD came into the room. I hit him with a Winter Blast while he was distracted fighting another player. He's down to about half health by the time he finishes the other guy off. I duck down by the small ramp to the dock, only be abruptly reminded about the turret under there. Shocked I turn and freeze it, expecting any second to be beaten down by the BD. Well, apparently he had the same 'take out the turret first' idea about my RPG, only he can't hack or freeze so he's shooting at it. My sidekick must've done just enough damage because as I turn from the other turret I see his shin staring me in the face. I panic fire a shotgun blast into his knee.
Game Over.
Last kill, Double Takedown trial done, and first place finish = juuuust enough to level.
Very Happy= :D Very Happy= :D
I was a happy monkey.

After that I left to take my brother to the local Youth Center, and when I got back I saw Six was still on so I hopped in MW2 with him and SR, and later Dingo.
It wasn't until I was already in party that I noticed Kratos was on.
facepalm2
By the time I got out of game with them, you'd signed off. Sorry, bud. Catch you next time?

i shoulda mentioned, i have this for 360. Sorry. Like, it would be awesome playing this with you guys but... yeah. I needed something for the 360.

Anyway: started playing again 2 days ago, i played FO3 to much i lost my pwnage mode. So yeah... so i went from 31 to 36 just today. Smile. I play CTS. And capturing isnt hard, just do this, Use houdini straight of and get the sister, or kill the BD then take the sister, without the BD the other team is at a huge disatvantage without this bulking huge tin can.

I should record my gameplay, might be amusing for you to all see my ways of killing.

That's ok Monkey. I made gargantuan strides towards lvl 40 that night. I went from lvl 24 to ......... wait for it.......... lvl 25. Impressive huh. Plat only a matter of minutes away.

I wasn't near computers of any type yesterday. Hot, sunny days, cloudless skies aren't the most conducive to playing games.

What we need to do for you is get into some Team Adam Grab games. You grab the LS and I'll work defense for you. If you can hold the LS for the required amount of time, then you should have 800+ Adam by the end of the match. I'll try to put down some multiplayer tips when I get home from work tonight.

Progress: In the middle of Fontaine Futuristics level. Sneaking up on that Plat. Very Happy= :D

*EDIT* Don't you just love alliteration. Dehydrated dude in the desert. Look how poetic that is. Doesn't that sentence just roll off the tongue? Isn't it just further proof, if any were needed, how awesome I really am. How the nation survived while I was away is a mystery that is as baffling as any religious mystery.

Amen. Smile

If you have any way of getting a vid of you playing up here on the Nation (preferably in the Dr. Newbie thread), then that'd help a lot in seeing what's giving you trouble. For now I'll just offer a couple of loadout tips.

My Loadout for every mode but Adam Grab--
Weapons:
Shotgun w/ Rate of Fire increase- Two solid hits and one plasmid shot for a kill, or one charged freeze and one shot
Machine Gun w/ Recoil decrease- I use this one only really when I run out of shotty ammo, or don't have time to reload. But it has proven extremely useful when I need to go long range.
Plasmids:
Winter's Grasp- Used for slowing/shattering people, disarming trapped vending machines, stopping turrets, increased hacking speed while machines are frozen, freezing doors shut to buy time
Telekinesis- Used to stun people, pick up and throw explosive barrels, can hold large objects for a bullet shield, Excellent tool against Grenade Launcher users as you can turn those babies around on them. Very Happy= :D
Tonics:
Expert Researcher- That's 10 Adam for every photo. I often got 100+ Adam from photos alone.
Speedy Hacker- I tend to hack everything, so this was a natural choice. If you'd prefer to just destroy machines instead, then I'd suggest the tonic that makes turrets less accurate.
Eve Saver- Big help when your main combo is Freeze, Shotgun or TK, Shotgun.

Strategy- Freeze or TK, get in close, Shotgun. Really, what more do you need to know? Photograph every person who goes down. Hack everything you come across. This is pretty much what I did up to level 40.
I experimented around with all the plasmids and weapons, and I honestly haven't found anything better for general use.

My loadout for Adam Grab--
Exactly the same. Except that I switch out TK for Aero Dash. There are many places to run away to when carrying the LS. Aero Dash gets you there faster, and can provide shortcuts between levels. Plus, if you freeze someone solid you can then Dash into them for a shatter, giving you a last ditch offense.

What loadout(s) do you use, K?

General Tips:
Geyser Trap/Electrobolt is really effective. Plant it just on one side of a door, or better yet put in on a wall, particularly effective on staircases that turn back on themselves like in Kashmir and Mercury Suites.
If you see someone else's trap, but want to go through where it's guarding, you can either Aero Dash passed it (inadvisable when they're in front of doors as they won't open fast enough), or blast it with one of your own plasmid shots to set it off.

Learn the Big Daddy Suit spawn points. When using a BD suit, don't forget about your Proximity Mines. Plant them atop staircases, or just throw them directly at or in front of enemies. People rarely look where they're going because they're too busy looking for enemies.

Many people use Insect Swarm. I hate Insect Swarm. However, if you learn to use it effectively, then robbing an opponent of their sight is a definite plus. If you find yourself in this position, you can shoo the swarm away with a couple of melee attacks, but in that time the enemy is likely going to kill you. If you can make out where they are, then try to melee at them while you're shooing, but be ready to shoot to finish them off as your melees won't likely do it.

Watch out while researching corpses. Many people use Death Trap, which makes you explode a few seconds after death. The corpse will start smoking before it explodes so take that as your cue to back off. If it's been a couple seconds, then you're in the clear to get a snapshot. EDIT: It's also accompanied by a beeping noise. Listen for that too.

When moving between games, try to remember who was using what. In games with the same players I have avoided death several times by knowing who was using Death Trap, being more aware of Geyser/Bolt trap users.

If you'd like we can go over the levels in game and I'll show you a few lesser known spots. If there's anything else you'd like help on, then post up. Smile
